    Replacing fireplace with wood stove

Why take the rock off, I would strip it down and see what is under the white paint. If you don't like the color then you may be able to dye it. As far as the chimney you will have to replace the air cooled pipe with some 2100 degree insulated 8 inch. Cost me about $900 for 20 feet online.

First burn of the season starts right now

Key is to get your stove hot in the least amount of time. I use 3 or 4 cubes of match light and and crack the ash pan draw. Once ive got secondary combustion going I get about a 3-4 hr burn at high or a 5-6 hr burn on low air.

    Replacing fireplace with wood stove

ZC fireplace I had the same type setup, cheap prefab fireplace. I did this Heats 2500 sq foot 2 story home no problem. Although Ive gotten some arguments on here about burning 3 month old oak, I do it all the time with little to no creosote build up in chimney by adjusting air...

    Heat not reaching whole house

heat in bedroom I would try creating a return path for the air either through the master bath wall or by putting a Y valve in the bathroom ceiling vent and pumping it through the living room. Easier to pull cold air than push hot. You need a loop.

First burn of the season starts right now

3 month old oak burning in my stove Got down to 39 degrees here so I decided to fire up the ZC with some 3 month old oak, piled not stacked. :blob2:

You guys ought to be ashamed

3 month old oak burning in my stove Got down to about 39 and I thought I would show you all how to burn 3 month old oak with plenty of heat and no creosote build up.

You guys ought to be ashamed

48, 6ft 175lb and I run 3.5 miles every AM. Anytime your in NEPA and want to go a few rounds let me know. Im not advocating burning green wood. I simply do not see the spending the time to stack and dry for another 5-10% heat (maybe) . The chart I posted a link to shows you only "loose" 15%...

wet wood Actually I was a college professor for 10 years I taught statistics, econometrics, accounting and finance. Here's my last for all you geniuses, Wood and Bio Mass Heat As per the above you get a whopping 15% more heat from wood zero moisture which you will never achieve by...

You guys ought to be ashamed

Green Wood Ill have to disagree with your statement that the water vapor in my stove will not release usable heat until it condenses. Water can be superheated way above boiling even at atmopshere. If my exhaust temp is 600 degrees the water vapor is also 600 degrees. As it exits the...

burning green wood only one problem guys when wood with no moisture burns it produces CO2 and water ! C6H12O6 + 6 O2 = 6 CO2 + 6 H2O As long as your stove temp is sufficiently high, burning green wood should not effect the combustion efficiency or the heat transfer efficiency of...

You guys ought to be ashamed

Green wood Unfortunately I had to learn how to burn green wood the first year I was burning as my ex firewood guy gave me a really green load. My solution was to get a hot bed of coals going then add the green wood on top and pop open my ash pan just a crack. Using the ash pan I could...

water in fuel Here's a link to a bunch of guys who must also not understand physics or my other major chemistry, but they figured out how to burn wood with 50% moisture. Go figure :yoyo: VTHR Green wood Chip Furnace Page 2

You guys ought to be ashamed

forgive me, I only minored in Physics. Please be kind enough to explain to us all how this heated water vapor goes through the same heat exchange pathway as all of the other combustion gasses but magically does not get conducted into the room ?????

moisture in wood and heat output I understand the difference in radiant vs convective heat, that's why I bought ZC fireplace instead of a wood stove. My firebox is wrapped inside an insulated box and a large portion of the radiant heat is used to heat the air blowing around and out of the...

moisture in wood and heat output This statement makes no sense to me: "High moisture content in firewood results in less effective burning of the wood and in a loss of energy in evaporating the water during burning. A cord of paper birch (Betula papyrifera Marsh.) firewood with 15 percent...

Stacking vs piling -- once again Guys, ive both stacked and piled my oak here in NEPA and have observed no material difference Ive also burned 3 month old oak with noproblem once Ive gotten a nice bed of coals going. Once I get my inglenook ZC EPA fireplace up to temp I can burn just...

Some of the old timers may be right. Im only burning wood for 3 years now but when I first started I questioned everything. I neither have the time or desire to cut or stack wood myself as my time is more valuable. Ive found very little scientific research supporting an optimum 20 % moisture...

Is your metal chimney grounded ?

Thanks, Jeff. I did my own install. Im an accountant but after getting price quotes from the local "pros" I was looking at 11K to save 3K a year in oil. I decided to read the directions, which were great, but they did not indicate a separate ground was necessary. That being said Lighting hit a...
