    Kindling making

I was on the ice the day after Thanksgiving last year, don't know if it will happen this year. If you will take me with on your vacation, I'll store your kindling under my bed and deliver on request:msp_biggrin:

    Kindling making

Oh no ! Ice fishing is far too close. I use plastic garbage cans with a lid that latches on, a bungee across the top insures that it stays in place, ya can get a bunch of kindling in a 30 gal garbage can.

    Woodstove Photos

Ok here is what I got, This was built by my brother in about 1986, mine is the third home that it has been in, he built a bit fancier ones for the other two homes and I ended up with the handmedown. It has a heat manifold across the top on the inside, and one on both sides that you can see...

    Wood and Coal

A few years back I worked on a ranch where they put me in a sheep camp This is not a pic of the one I lived in but it looked identical. The inside was similar to this, ( but not quite as nice ) Anyway about Nov it started to become quite a task to stay warm through the night. The tiny stove...

    Firewood cutting regulations.

Yup that pretty well sums it up. I'm about 120 miles from the nearest tree service, and any private land is either big enough that any trees are sold under a logging contract, or small enough that the land owner wants everything for their own use. The state I live in right now is over 80 percent...

    Firewood cutting regulations.

It's mine, it's yours, and anybody else that wants to set foot on it. BUT there has got to be some monitoring / regulation done, otherwise it will be raped into oblivion, like it has been done before, and prolly will be again. The western states are pretty big in size and the percent of public...

    Firewood cutting regulations.

No joking!!! My experience is the same on USFS and BLM land in Idaho, Wyoming and Utah. They give you a map and a little booklet of tags, the tags are similar to the tags for deer and elk hunting. There are also a list of requirements as long as your arm, what you can cut ,what equipment you are...

An idea to help with seasoning of wood in big piles (not stacked)

Ya know in Idaho with potatoes, air circulation is very important during storage. They are stored in below ground cellars piled quite high (20'-25') and 100' in length we would put 24"culvert with 1" holes all around the circumfrence, with a air mover on one end. I often thought that the same...

How many of you guys buy your logs?

I have done, and will again, just to supplement what I cut. #1 its about 60 miles one way to get to where I can cut. #2 I have to buy a Forest Service or BLM permit #3 I can haul only 3/4 of a cord at the MOST in one trip #4 wear and tear on my own vehicle #5 $85.00 a cord 16' lengths dropped...

Post pictures of your woodpile/splitting area

Yep I think it is the same, not TOO BAD if you cut it green and get it split. Even the standing dead goes bad before your eyes. Here is a couple of pics of some I have in my stack. Look familiar? I suppose I just as well show all of my woodpile since that's the point of this thread. Pretty pale...
