western pa/eastern ohio GTG II august

dammit, I just found this thread (haven't been on here much lately, been busy), I have a big chestnut oak to cut on Saturday or else I would have tried to come out.....that's only a couple hours away (I'm north of Altoona). Damm........ Have fun guys, and make sure you get some pics to...

    Swisher 22 ton log splitter

I found my Swisher 22 ton splitter on Craigslist locally, it was used twice (yes, still had the tags on it and was garage kept), bought it for 700 bucks on the spot, came with a new 5 gallon jug of synthetic hydro fluid too. I've owned it for 4 years and I've split literally 150 or more full...

    Ticks, Here They Come Again...

Ticks keep getting worse and worse around here in central PA.....my daughter got bitten and had the bullseye rash. Over three long weeks of antibiotics, three times a day. She seems to be fine, now. Wife also had a lyme tick in her (on her collarbone of all places), I pulled it out as it was...

    The 19 Firefighters.

My heart and soul go out to these guys and their families....what a horrible tragedy. God has a special place for heroes like that.......may their families be comforted by the fact that they gave their lives to help save others.....they are TRUE heroes.

    My wood just won't dry

I'm three years ahead on my wood (around 26-28 cord), still have just a little splitting and stacking to do but, as the rest on this post, we've had torrential rain for the past week now..... I used to just top-cover what I was going to use in a given season at the end of summer...but as soon...

Is a Homelite 240 electronically governed?

I was working on a buddy of mines Homelite 240 this afternoon, was DOA. Upon inspection of it I found it had good spark so I went straight for the carburetor. Found the inlet screen to be packed FULL of sawdust AND that **** that the little fuel filter was made of. So I rebuilt the Carb...

    Central Ohio Spring GTG

loved the pics and vids guys! I didn't read about this until the day after the event was over or else i would have made the trip out from central PA. Looks like a good time was had by all, hows about putting me on a email list for the next one! I'll even help cook! Dammit I wish I could've...

    Ticks?

My youngest son got one on his foot over Memorial Day weekend, they were swimming and playing in the yard (lawn grass, not tall grass). He came up to me in the evening and said he had a bug on the top of his foot. I almost needed a magnifying glass to see it, it was so small! It must have...

Is this bandmill a good deal?

I'd be all over that thing for $1,600.00. Heck the bandsaw alone is worth that, and you are getting a decked trailer to haul it around with! If you don't buy it, send me the address and number.......I'll be out to get it!!:msp_tongue:

    Outside fire pit

It's just the sub-soil, basically packed down clay. We use the pit around 2 to 3 times a week, I made a stainless steel grille for it, the keyhole design is nice because you can build a fire and cook on it literally within a half hour by pulling some coals over to the square side and throw a...

    Outside fire pit

Here's a picture of our firepit. Made it out of rocks from a slide on the mountain. It's sunken into the ground around 10", I built it in a keyhole shape, the square end is used for cooking....

    Bull-Line rope?

AMEN. Couldn't have said it any better!

    Bull-Line rope?

I would DEFINATELY NOT trust that for bull line rope. Maybe for tying stuff down in a trailer, but you get a heavy tree or branch against that rope and you are asking for trouble. I use at least 8000lb tensile strength rope, and for the really big stuff I use cable.

    Farm fresh saw pics!!! (lots)

Nice score! How about posting some before and after pics in a new thread. I have a feeling that will be a long lasting thread at that!:blob2:

For those with cat mufflers: point of reference

Just bear in mind that two cycles rely on SOME back pressure to run optimally. Watch you don't over-rev your saw. When I port-mod a muffler I make sure that the total "area" of the outlet of the muffler is just a tad smaller than the total area of the exaust port on the cylinder. I know, it's...

    Just got the new mill

I'm too poor to buy one at this moment. I have almost all the mechanical parts (a huge vintage bandsaw and all the works and a couple motors) to build a homemade bandmill, and access to the structural metal to build a trailer/bed for it, but no time or extra cash. So for the meanwhile I just...

    More on the Sugar Maple

Yes sir, fellas.....sugar maple is one of the best cooking woods. I'm a little partial to apple, though. I have a cord of it JUST for cooking on the pit. I make maple syrup in the spring as a hobby, although this was a lousy year as I only ended up with three weeks of sap run and made 17...

    Climbing on the ash bandwagon

I have around 9 cords of black and honey locust in my stack, and it is the best wood I have ever burned in regards to BTU's/cord. I can put a split or two of maple or ash on a bed of coals, and three or four splits of locust on top of them at 11pm, and wake up to a 75 degree house at 6:00 am...

    Climbing on the ash bandwagon

I personally love burning ash. I probably have around 6 cord of it C/S/S out back, it's a great daytime wood, or put it in with a piece or two of locust for some good long heat! Nothin' wrong with a good piece of ash! :msp_thumbup:

    Spun Crank Seal

Interesting find, Brad, with some interesting ideas to figure it out! I have an old 015 that I can't get to idle down either, have tried multiple carbs, rebuilt carbs, etc. I think it may be the crank seals but I cannot find any replacements out there. Anyone know where I can get some Stihl...
