Firewood Sellers tool of the future...

My girlfriend has one of those. She has a home-based baking business, selling mostly at farmers markets, and craft sales. Its a handy tool to have.

    Vermeer BC652

    Screwed that up, it's a 625, not a 652.

    Vermeer BC652

I came across this machine locally the other day. It's a 1998 Vermeer BC625 with 1362 hours. The asking price is $3000, am I right in thinking this is quite a good price for this machine?

Advice appreciated --wood stove in a supertight 550 sq.ft.

If your walls are insulated, you need a vapor barrier. It's that simple. Sounds like it will be very air-tight which may make it difficult to get a good draft going in your stove. You may need to crack a window to get a fire going properly. Once it's burning well you may be able to close it...

    Hand Plane

Crazy! I've done quite a bit a bit of cabinetry, and know how hard it can be to get a plane set up right. To get a plane of that size cutting that fine is unreal :msp_ohmy:

Anyone know where I can find these tongs?

Yep, knew they would be pricey. I got mine from an estate sale for 30 bucks :hmm3grin2orange: Your best bet is to find an old railroader with a set laying around in the shed. They are very difficult to find around where I live as well. But when I lived in northern Ontario, they were all over...

Anyone know where I can find these tongs?

Looks like a set of railway tie tongs to me. I have a similar set that I use for wood handling as well. http://www.industryrailway.com/p/145/tie-tong-one-man-aluminum

    Gas TAX

Are you sure about that? I worked in a fishing lodge in Northwest Ontario for 4 summers. According to my boss, he didn't have to pay road tax on the fuel we used in the boats.

    Chainsaw score!!

Sorry, no pics were taken. I was in the groove and pumped that it was an easy fix. Too lazy to go in the house and grab the camera before putting it back together. The crack was under the handle, and after reassembly it's not even visible.

    Chainsaw score!!

So Friday after work I stopped by my local TSC, just to browse a bit and check out the clearance tables. I spotted a Jonsered 2234 S sitting on the shelf. It was labeled "Does not run" and priced at $20 :msp_w00t:. The bar and chain showed no use, so I figured it for a simple fix. Once at home...

    Insulating

Spray foam in a cathedral ceiling is a bad idea! Unless you put stops in to provide air flow between your roof sheathing and the spray foam. If you don't, your shingles will have a very short life due to heat buildup in summer. Dense pack cellulose is the best choice if your truss depth allows...

    just realized im old {or is it old school}

Well, I do have a Fiskars, but otherwise I'm running a similar setup. Must be old-school, rather than old, because I'm only 32!

What to use for Heat Shield Spacers behind woodstove?

I've always just used pieces of pipe, because that's what I had laying around. But I saw a friend of mine had used ceramic insulators for electric fencing. I thought that was clever.

Cold Enough?? What's your temperature today?

Today's high was -24 Celsius, currently at -28, and headed for -32 tonight according to the weatherman

    What's a decent bush knife?

I've had four different Cold Steel knives fail so far. And everyone has been a fixed blade so far. The first was a True-Flight throwing knife. The seventh throw I made with it , it snapped in half at the handle/blade transition. There was an obvious flaw in the steel where it broke, clearly...

    What's a decent bush knife?

Anything by Cold Steel = Crap :angrysoapbox: I fell for their advertising years ago, and spent big money on quite a few of their knives. Most of them have since failed catastrophically under regular use, and Cold Steel refuses to honor the warranty on any of them. I have sent repeated emails...

Does your stove gobble up more wood than my fireplace?

Sounds like you burn about 2-3 times as much wood as I do in my stove. 2 and a half wheelbarrows fills my rack in the garage, and that will heat my place for 7-10 days, depending on outside temp.

    finally clean glass

Interesting how different stoves are at keeping the glass clear. I have a small Seefire stove that I've been using three winters so far, and the glass is still as clear as when I started using it. I occasionally get a bit of soot buildup if a log rolls back against the glass overnight. But a...

I have quite a few Box elder burl slabs.

I would guess not, seeing how he posted this nearly two years ago.
