    Your native multi-leadered red maples (most likely not sunset and not planted) are very hardy and can tolerate minor feeder root disruption. The oder from the Kalpana root will be very different from the maple root, scratch the surface and smell to distinguish.

    Give it a full season before you prune out the dead. Many of the brown limbs you'll find will green up.

    It's most likely a pollination issue, you can look up how to pollinate by hand. When I was a kid soursop ice cream was one of my favorites along with tamarind ice cream.

    Decline could be due to a plethora of issues. Most common seen on newly planted trees is improper water management and or planting hole prep.
