031 Won't Rev with Nova II Ignition

When preparing to do the same project myself, I found that my 031 had already been converted to electronic using a Stihl trigger module - I have not pulled the flywheel to see if the timing has been changed, but I know that it does still have the points FW. Turned out my problem was a very poor...

    General 2 stoke question

My Ryobi trimmer does the same thing...it's an older one that runs 32:1 and the muffler is always a bit drippy buit it's unburnt oil mostly. I recently starting using synth 2c oil at 40:1, so far that seems to help with the smoke and post-muffler drip. We'll see if that's enough protection for...

Carburetor Internal Parts Identification And How To Be Certain Which Ones To Use

The woven ones are better for ethanol fuel I think, but it doesn't seem like they are always an exact match to the rubber ones in the kit either so you still gotta match up the flaps with the fuel inlets in the carb body. So far I haven't done a saw carb that uses the more open design...

    Buyer Beware

I've bought miscellaneous saw parts etc from that seller over the last few years, never had any issues whatsoever although I agree that using someone else's photo and specifically stating it is theirs is certainly shady.

Who's itching to run a saw?

I was able to scratch that itch a couple nights ago, a co-worker had some logs to buck and some big rounds he couldn't split easily. Been over a year for me, and after it got dark we sat and drank beers next to the wood pile - can't describe how good those fresh chips smelled to me, soaked it...

Cylinder base sealant, expensive Stihl silicone or hi temp red RTV ??

Permatex MotoSeal here as well. Most other sealers don't say they are gasoline resistant, MotoSeal does. Most auto parts stores will have it.

    Chainsaw cleacing products

Super Clean is good stuff...it doesn't fade the plastics and does a great job of cleaning/degreasing when I'm doing a tear down. After it sets on there for a few minutes most of the gunk rinses right off with a spray nozzle. It does dull the aluminum a little but it looks nice and clean.

    045S not oiling bar

Trying to fix my brother's older 045AV Super...I rebuilt the top end a few years ago and it's become one of his favorite saws but it suddenly quit oiling on him. I found the plastic worm drive gear on the pump was basically shredded, so I found a replacement and also disassembled the pump to...

    MS250 Clamshell Rebuild

Just finished an MS250 myself - my brother somehow roached the piston and just gave it to me to make up for the other the saw work I've done for him. Jug was good, just a few light aluminum deposits and a LOT of carbon. I put a in new Meteor piston kit w/Caber rings, crank seals, carb kit and...

    Need help stihl 056av super

Doesn't look too bad just from those photos, good chance it would just need a new piston/rings and a cylinder cleanup. Might as well pull the cylinder and get a real good look. I rebuilt my brother's 045AVS this spring and it was much worse that yours looks. Luckily I was able to clean up his...

Yes, another cylinder qustion from a nubie!

Warming up the cylinder does make a big difference. Looks good now, get a new piston kit and go for it. I haven't used a VEC piston so I can't comment on that. Most guys here seem to recommend Meteor or Episan as the preferred choice (next to Stihl OEM). Last one I used from Northwood had no...

Yes, another cylinder qustion from a nubie!

Looks to me like the cylinder could use a little more clean up, especially in the last two photos. It doesn't look any worse than the last one I cleaned up, the remaining black marks still look like surface aluminum that can be removed with acid. I had a few stubborn spots around the exhaust...

    MS200T help me please

The needle is not a welch plug - don't put anything on that. A welch plug is a small disc of metal that seals off an internal area of the carb when pressed in.

    034av leaking gas

When looking for kits you must have the brand and model of the carburetor itself - sometimes the same model saw can have different OEM carburetors. It should be stamped onto the side of the carburetor, both the name and model number. If you're not sure, post up a photo or list everything that...

    Best electric polesaw?

I don't know if it's the best (probably not) but FWIW I have a Remington 10" model where the saw can detach from the pole and be used as a hand held as well. I've had it for probably 8 years or more, it works much better than the POS I had before it (which was a Woodzig or something like that)...

    saw not cutting good

Could it be that the bar is worn at the base and causing the chain to tip and bind?

Homeowner needs help on choosing a stihl(250-290)

FWIW, my brother bought an MS250 a few years ago - he cuts 10-15 cord of firewood a year and he says it hasn't let him down yet. It's not his only saw, but it gets the most use because it's light and easy to start. It wears a 16" bar and seems very well balanced with that.

    Stihl 031AV sprucin' up?!

K10-WAT should be correct. Surprising that your dealer said there wasn't one, I picked up a kit for mine at my Stihl dealer earlier this year. Maybe they aren't distributed by Stihl anymore, but there are both Walbro OEM and aftermarket kits out there for the WA2C.
