    Pole Barn project

Just my 2 cents, cedar is fine. We built a tractor shed with cedar poles in the 90s just took an axe and chipped off the pith from the cedar poles to get down to the heart wood and direct buried the poles 3' down. Its nothing special just three walls and a tin roof but its been holding up...

My cut off saw does that but its the governed ignition. Did you by chance have a TS760 AVE coil?

Rewiring chain grinder for CW and CCW rotation

I agree the better wheels help and I found that cleaning the chain a little helps as well. I don't go to the extent that some on here do cleaning chains, I just run them over a wire wheel mounted on a bench grinder to knock off the major stuff. I agree about the motor, which is why I didn't...

Rewiring chain grinder for CW and CCW rotation

Glad you guys are finding it useful !! Thanks for the positive feedback! I am no pro at using chain grinders and usually get a burr or rolled metal on the top of the LH cutter or side of the LH cutter, where my RH cutters are always nice and clean and sharp. By reversing the grinder I now get...

Rewiring chain grinder for CW and CCW rotation

After that was done I started wiring, the switch has solder only connections so I finished most of them prior to installing the switch and then installed it in the case. With everything wired I test ran it and everything worked right. Now I was on to stuffing 10 lbs of crap in a 5 lb bag…...

Rewiring chain grinder for CW and CCW rotation

So I have had a Northern Tool chain grinder for 5 or 6 yrs and I decided that I needed to rewire it to give me CW rotation for the LH cutters and CCW rotation for the RH cutters. I searched on here and couldn't find a write up for how to rewire one of these grinders so I wanted to share with...

can i make beams with just a mini mill?

I managed to do that with ripping chain, that's blue spruce. I was getting lazy let the chain get too loose, too dull and was forcing the saw thru faster than I should have. It was the end of the day and I wanted to finish. So I guess my suggestions are to make sure your chains tensioned...

Is this what your talking about?

Finally started on some of my stash!

Great idea. One question, why do the two "dogs" have pivots? What does that feature gain you? Does it help you pick up logs driven in the mud or something.

    Ported Milling Saw

Hey thanks for the help guys, and Mastermind as well, with the exhaust at 98° atdc I am gonna raise the transfers to 118° atdc as you guys have suggested. I'll let you know how I like it compared to the other saws when I get it broken in. Thanks again

can i make beams with just a mini mill?

Yes you can make beams with just a mini mill that are straight and square. Yes you can use regular cross cut chain for milling with fine results. Straight is based on how well you chose your guide board and attach the rail sections to it. Square is based on how well you set up your guide board...

    Ported Milling Saw

Is there a certain crankcase volume to blowdown ratio? Most of what I have read doesn't talk to this. I know that from reading the older porting posts, guys like timberwolf took great pains to measure crankcases, etc. but why was never discussed in detail.

    Ported Milling Saw

Yeah I found that thread, no way I was ever finding it otherwise. thanks! So in that thread Mastermind used the following The exhaust is 98° Transfers are 118° Intake is 83° That seems like a pretty low blow down of only 20 degrees, I would have thought that a little more blow down would be...

    Ported Milling Saw

mdavlee, I haven't got a tach but I would imagine I am looking for 7500 to 10000 rpm. Reading previous posts about milling with 660BB kits that's the range of rpm MtnGun usually discusses. I know that my basically stock 298xp is pretty forgiving when milling, but runs quite a bit slower rpm...

    Ported Milling Saw

I am working on another MS660 and I want to build this one mainly for milling. So I am looking for a broad torque range and I am wondering how transfer timing plays into a broad torque range. I have looked at most of the porting posts and I guess I am a little confused. The last MS660 I built...

    Transfer timing and torque

Anybody? I can't get anymore exhaust timing with the current configuration and it seems from what I have played with intake timing beyond low to mid 80s just makes the saw really thirsty so the last option for a wide toque band is minor changes to transfer timing.
