New Smart Phone App Controlled Wood Stove

I built my own in 2012. Like panolo said, it's convenient to look at, but it's almost always doing what it's supposed to be doing. Although, it is kinda of nice getting alerts on your phone when it isn't, but there's usually nothing you can do about it if you're not there anyway.

When did the 562xp get all the bugs worked out? Year, serial number?

Well, I got a new 562XP in May of 2016 with an el48 carb on it. I'm sorry to say that it has a very slight off idle hesitation. I haven't been too concerned about it yet since it is very slight, and this is a little embarrassing, but I only have about 6 or 7 tanks of gas through it so far. No...

    chainsaw chain won't tighten

Actually, I have experienced something similar on my brand new 562XP with a brand new bar and chain. I haven't dug into the issue yet to see what's going on. I don't think I'm running out of adjustment, but something appears to be binding. I've always managed to get it tensioned, but have...

    WIFI Sensor

Yeh, but it isn't going to be easy to duplicate. It's an old automation controller (PLC) that reads my thermostat (Ranco) on the boiler and is then read by a program that I wrote in visual basic on a PC. I use it to text me the boiler temp every day at noon and then it will also text me if the...

    562xp First Run Question

I've been using my trusty Husqvarna 350 for the best 10 years or so. It certainly has some limitations when it comes to power, but she's treated me well. With the addition of the outdoor wood boiler I find myself cutting around 10+ cord a year and it seemed like a really good excuse to get a...

    562xp first run question

Thanks guys. That's what I figured. Oddly enough at the beginning of the manual, for running in it states to avoid running at too high a speed for extended periods for the first 10 hours. I assume they mean with no load. Thanks again.

    562xp first run question

It was suggested that I move this to this forum.... Just received the 562xp I ordered and have a quick, or hopefully quick question about setting the autotune on first run. Most of what I've read so far instructs you to cut a thick log at full throttle for the first 3 to 5 min for the carb to...

    562xp First Run Question

Ah yes. The chainsaw forum. Why didn't I think of that. I'll repost there. Thanks.

    562xp First Run Question

Just received the 562xp I ordered and have a quick, or hopefully quick question about setting the autotune on first run. Most of what I've read so far instructs you to cut a thick log at full throttle for the first 3 to 5 min for the carb to adjust itself. This matches what I found in the...

Stihl oil can ID / info

Thanks. I have no intention of opening them ( I got a couple). Oil's not terrible expensive yet, and it's probably helping to preserve the cans from the inside out! I agree, Yuck on the Genny's - new or old. My father was a genny drinker. Even as a youngster I never got a taste for it.

    Shaver OWB Owners

I've been running my 250 continuously since nov of 2012 with no real complaints. I'm heating my house including the basement, hot water, and a hot tub. Even on the coldest nights (zero or slightly below here) I able to get 12 hours of burn time without much issue. I do have some creosote...

Who here has the oldest OWB in service still...?

New to this, only on my 2nd year with a new OWB. I did a bit of research before I decided to go with an OWB, and am curious if the guys that have had them operating for a long time - 10+ years, have run them year round or shut them down for the summer. I have this theory that if you keep them...

    Shaver Improvement Forum

My guess - and it's just that - a guess, is that you'd be O.K. I let my shaver 250 go for a week a couple of Januaries ago for new years and it was still 85 degrees when I got home. Don't remember how cold it was out, but I'm in central PA if that helps. I loaded the firebox, cracked the...

OWB connection to hydronic boiler question

I don't believe there's any part of the heating system higher than the OWB. Returning water to it was actually a concern of mine. The OWB is going to be the path of most resistance - I think.

OWB connection to hydronic boiler question

In the process of helping my neighbor connect his OWB to his indoor boiler. I've seen this done almost exclusively by using a plate heat exchanger and keeping the OWB water on one side and the indoor boiler on the other. He's convinced he wants them to be one system with shared water. I...

    tree / weed ID ?

I have lived at my current home in the woods for 8 years now and have never noticed these trees until this year. Maybe they just never had these little nuts on them. Anyway, I haven't been able to id them - not very good at tree id anyway, but figured someone here knows what they are...

    Summer owb temp?

Well, I’m a little jealous. I’m only getting about 24hrs of burn right now. I’m running at 150. No real creosote problem, but I also have an issue trying to keep pine lit and mix with hard wood as well. I think part of my problem is that the wood I’m burning isn’t completely seasoned yet. I...
