The best *homeowner* saw only costs $298. brand new!

Anyone know how a Husky 350 compares to a Stihl 028 WB? My 028 is all the saw I need, but I keep thinking about getting a new saw. Then I think, spend the extra for a 353 or a Dolmar 5100- but I talk myself out of buying any.

    Need to buy a chainsaw

I don't know much about mesquite wood, but he's cutting mainly 10" diameter. Wouldn't a Husky 350 (or 353) be enough saw for that. They're pretty light weight too. I'm thinking about getting me one.

    What is Horsepower?

I've made several post, but after reading over things, I admit I don't know enough about it to be posting. I was just going by the equation and thinking, how can they say the Torque doesn't matter- that's like saying the Torque is zero in the equation. I think one guy was saying Torque gets...

    What is Horsepower?

I was gone for a few days and I come back and read over the post and I just can't understand where this "Torque doesn't matter" theory comes from....... It takes Torque to cut wood...... To cut wood, it takes a force to pull the chain through the wood. This force comes from the sprocket. As it...

    What is Horsepower?

Keep it Simple! Peter339 - Forget about Formula1 race cars, forget about Heavy Trucks, forget about gearing, keep it simple and use a chainsaw as your example. If you have to compare two saws don't use model numbers of different saws, don't throw in gearing changes. I would think if you use two...

    What is Horsepower?

In an early post I basically said the average engineer didn't know what they were talking about. Of course thats not true. I should of said- just because someone says they're an engineer doesn't mean they're always right about engineering topics. Then Belgian who claims to be an engineer...

    What is Horsepower?

I may be wrong but !!!! I've had several college level classes in an "engineering science" program. The classes were similar to mechanical engineering- some may have even used the same books. So I think I know what Im talking about, but then again I may be wrong. The average "new" Mechanical...

    I Love my Wood Pile??

More Wood !!!!! I've been cutting and splitting some more wood this year. I figure I got at least 8 ricks. Too bad I don't heat with wood. I've sold a little as Campfire Wood and some friends say they want to buy some. I need to get to burning it. There's more I can get from a dozer pile near...

    Old 3.7 saw Comparison!

I've got one of the old 3.7 Craftsman Roper saws which has anti-vibe. How does this saw compare to the other 3.7 saws from that era? I think Stihl had the 041 and McCulloch had some 3.7 saws too. Im not sure what Homelite had or if they were anti-vibe. What did Poulan and Husky have? Some of you...

Will Firewood Stacking damage a tree??

Im stacking firewood between two big oak trees. Some wood has been there a couple years already. I used up some of the wood in a big campfire. Where the wood had been stacked against the tree, looks different than the rest of the bark. I suppose because the wood blocked the sunlight. Also some...

    Cutting Edge GTG Pics

I noticed some of the guys aren't wearing eye protection! Looks like some are wearing prescription glasses. They may be better than nothing, but they're probably not shatter proof. :dizzy:

    Wood Splitting Question

I've been splitting it with a wedge and an axe, but I got a bad disk in my neck, now my shoulder and arm are hurting. I had to quit so that I wouldn't be too messed up to go to work. I was just trying to figure out how much I could split before I rented it. There's some free wood near me, but I...

    Wood Splitting Question

I've never used a wood splitter, but may rent one for a half a day. I assume it will be a medium sized gas powered one. The wood logs Im splitting is 12- 14" dia. red oak about 18" long. Can anyone estimate about how many logs I could split per hour? I'll probably have to split it in half, then...

33cc Homelite. Looks like a deere!

Here's my homelite-its a 20 powerstroke without a chainbrake. Is this saw the same as yours? I bought it new at a farm supply store- the bar and chain were missing so I got one at Lowe's. I drilled some holes in the muffler and that seemed to help a lot. I may have it leaned out too much it...

    same sprocket 16" bar to 12"? speed=power?

I have a Homelite 20 Powerstroke saw, probably was made during the late 90's. I think its about 33cc- I don't know if thats similar to a Ranger or not, but this saw cuts pretty good if the chain is sharp. I drilled 3 , 1/4" holes in the muffler and that helped a lot. Last week I was cutting...

    Chainsaw Get Together

General Questions about GTG I have some questions about a typical GTG- I did a search and thought I would put it here. How many people usually show up at a GTG? Do women and children show up too or just men and maybe some teen boys? What about accident liability? Do you require people to sign a...

    Stihl 028 and others

My Stihl 028 feels like its got good compression and it cranks up easy and runs smooth. Today I was cutting some 12" red oak and seems like it wants to bog now and then. Should it bog down in that wood? I've got a little Homelite 20 (33cc) that was built in late 90's and it seems like it cuts...

    Making Charcoal

This may be a little off topic, but it deals with firewood and saws. Sorry I didn't take any pics, but I made some charcoal yesterday following instructions at this site http://web.archive.org/web/20050212102919/www.eaglequest.com/~bbq/charcoal/index.html I don't think I let my wood catch...
