Biggest & Tallest Doug fir and Sitka Spruce & redwoods

Here are some more old photos that I found. Notice the cut was done with axes in this first one.

This tree will give you some redwood perspective. Notice that there are people in the tree.

    back cut

Think of it as snow on the side of a mountain, if what ever is holding it back (in this case the hinge) breaks loose it is going to slide down the hill. Now with the tree it means that it will fall off the stump and more than likely fall backwards and when it does that it can bounce anywhere...

First family camping trip - gear suggestions needed

Coleman also makes a dual fuel stove. The unleaded also burns much cleaner than the kerosene. Walmart Coleman brand fuel is $14 a gallon here. Kerosene at the farm store is $17 for 2.5 gallons. Guess where I get it. I use the kerosene for the old wick style huricane lanterns and unleaded for...

Where To Get Mill Smooth Files?

I have a very good pawn shop where I get mine. Got my axe there also. Some bozo was using a hand held grinder to do a very poor job sharpening. Fixed it with the file though.

Biggest & Tallest Doug fir and Sitka Spruce & redwoods

Can you imagine falling one of those giants with axes and cross cut saws? The sound and vibration of one of those hitting the ground has to be awesome. You are probably right about them keeping things quiet as there are some out there that would do something to kill the tree just to see if...

    Predicting tree growth

This thread reminds me of when the SV Pallada paid a visit to Dutch Harbor, Alaska They first docked at the fuel dock that was at the end of the runway but they had to move it because the masts were too tall and interfered with the 737 that was trying to land.

    Logosol Grindomatic Chain Sharpening Robot

I was just pointing out that it was taking off a lot of material. The thing that I do not like is the fact that it is one more thing that can break down on you. I would prefer a regular grinder over a robot for that reason alone. Yea it take up labor time but I feel that the trade off is worth...

    New to wood burning

I am suprised that no one mentioned that you could get a few cords of seasoned wood to start out with, giving the greener wood more time to dry out. The air movement through the wood also dries it although not as fast as the heat. But if you have say 4 cord of seasoned wood to start with then it...

    Dayton 2Z463B

Not a problem, I can take it. I do like the way that this thing cuts. I need to find the bumper kit and a new oil cap. You might be able to see that one of the tabs is broken off and is a pain to open.

    Dayton 2Z463B

LOL all in the symantics. Why do some people call it a pop a soda or coke? Polecat or skunk? One definition of a cable - a wire rope or metal chain of great tensile strength (I guess this fits the description) It all depends on what you grew up around. You can do better than nit pick at...

    Dayton 2Z463B

Long story short, bought 20 acres and then I found a Dayton 2z463B saw at a pawn shop for $40. For never having heard of this saw before I took a chance and bought it. At first it would start but when you released the throttle it died. Took it apart, cleaned up the carb and adjusted the idle now...

    design of modern chain saws.

I am convinced that colleges have classes that are not listed like Common Sense 101 where they line them up against the wall and beat it out of them.

The other thing is ROI, are professionals all of a sudden going to change from a $500-$600 saw to a $1000 to $1500 saw? Would homeowners go from a $150 saw to a $500 saw? Probably not.

Randy, Love the signature. Safety gear will not help at all if you are standing on the wrong side of a tree when it falls.

Probably the same reason that a V8 is still a V8. The only thing that has changed is the fuel and air delivery and electronic ignition. I am glad they have changed though. I think the saw my grandpa had was from the 60's. All of it was motor. It could cut some wood but it would give you a work...
