Is this appropriate for a canopy anchor ?

As stated, load ratings matter. Don’t just think about the weight, think about the force if you fall several feet and shock load the anchor. Speed is a force multiplier and can quickly cause bad situations especially if hardware is side loaded. Personally I wrap the tree several times and...

    Tree ID

Thanks everyone! I agree with hackberry. The bark is pretty unique, I’m surprised I haven’t run across any of these, it’s one that I won’t forget.

    Tree ID

Western Virginia, I won’t have anymore pics till I go cut up the two that fell. I wasn’t thinking of posting the pics when I took them. I usually look them up using memory and a quick pic but can’t access my books.

    Tree ID

Sorry for the horrible pick. I usually like to do my own research but I’m in the middle of moving and my books are packed up. Not much to go on, unknown leaves or fruit. Bark is rough and thin, I forgot to get a pic of a cross section. Toss out some suggestions to get me started. Thanks in advance!

    Poplar split?

It rots quick if left on the ground, so I’ve been hesitant to use it for decking. I believe you can find pressure treated poplar, but I’m not 100% sure.

    Poplar split?

Poplar’s good for a lot of things. I use it for small projects like bird feeders/houses, cabinets, and done some trim work. I’ve got a bunch on my place and I’d rather cut and use it, so I can leave the feed trees.

    Poplar split?

Not a big deal since it split straight. I’ll find a project for the 2x6’s at some point.

    Poplar split?

I was milling some poplar, about 15” wide 2” thick and I had several split down the middle over 3/4 of the board. They spilt while I was milling, or 3-4min after. Any idea if it was a damage from felling or just the way the tree was tensioned while growing? It wasn’t checked and didn’t have...

1/4 pitch .043 Narrow kerf issue

Funny thing is I can’t see a difference below the tie straps. Once 3-4 drivers roll through, the sprocket pushes the next one out the rail or binds it up.

1/4 pitch .043 Narrow kerf issue

I’m stumped, I purchased a couple woodland pro chains and they don’t work with my bar. Everything is supposedly the same, 1/4 pitch .043, 64 DL, Stihl rollomatic mini bar matches. Stihl chain in the same size is fine. Drivers on the chain look the same, spacing is the same, chain rolls through...

    Anyone use electric firestarter?

Dryer lent and lamp oil works like a champ. Stuff an old pickle jar full of lent, and add the oil.

Learning How to Use a Chainsaw

If you’ve been woodworking and building for any length of time, you know the dangers of certain tools. Like how a piece of wood can fly out of a table saw or a nailer finds a knot and spits a nail. Nobody can teach you the all the dangers of any tool. It takes some common sense and a desire to...

    Show us your stumps!

The rot had me puckering so I left more hing than I thought I needed, and slammed the wedges home. It did what I wanted it to do, so I’ll take it.

    Saw shop games

I’d ask how they determined the piston was scored. Also ask what the compression #’s are. I’d bet the answer is “low” and they didn’t even test it. I’d get my saw back and tell them to shove it. I picked up a fine 365 special with a similar story, my buddy was more than happy to get $75 out of...

    Tsumara bar on a Husky

3/8th drive sprockets don’t care what gauge, just match the chain gauge to the bar, run a 050 bar and chain if you’d like.

    Husky 359 carb question

Replaced mine with a zama. Been a good saw ever since.

    Where are the employees?

When you get laid off, the unemployment checks are the same as when your working so there isn’t much incentive to try to find work. There are NOW HIRING!! signs everywhere around my town and everyone I talk to says they can’t find people that want to work. My wife is in sales with hospitality...

    Punky wood

Dry it out and toss it in the stove. Wet rotten wood holds a lot of water. Any wood that has moisture in it has to use its own BTU’s to get rid of the wet. Get ahead and stay ahead, and you’ll burn a lot less wood in the long run.

    Diagnostic Success

Neighbor asked if I could look at his saw, stated he put a new chain on and something was binding it keeping it from spinning. The chain brake was engaged. Sometimes it’s just that simple.

Car brands vs chainsaw brands .. what goes together.

6.0 power strokes, go with Husqvarna 359! Both run great once you fix the design flaws, and you get um cheap.
