Stihl 048 piston and cylinder kit

Hello Sir, I know this is an old thread (very old) but I wondered how the 048 piston from LRB worked out for you. I've just picked up an extremely tidy 048 that's apparently been straight gassed, and I'm keen to know how this went for you.

    "You Suck" Thread 2020"--Pics required!

Paid approx $165US for this - its the most original 266 I have ever seen, looks like it has only a couple of hours run time since new:

288 XP...... let the adventures begin.

Yes very solid, hard old man gum that's been down for 11 years - luckily the ol 288xp oils like the Exxon Valdez!

288 XP...... let the adventures begin.

Hey Bob, I thought you'd be interested in seeing mine all finished. Sure cuts fast with an 8 pin and 20inch bar! Still waiting for my new low top to come.

288 XP...... let the adventures begin.

I find the hightop too bulky for my liking.

288 XP...... let the adventures begin.

Looking really good Bob! I worked on mine over the holidays too and managed to finish it, all OEM except for the Meteor piston: I haven't got any photos of it complete as it has a very scuffed high top on it at the moment and I'm waiting on a brand new lowtop (which I much prefer) to come in...

288 XP...... let the adventures begin.

Hello Bob, I've just spoken to the owner of the said establishment in Invercargill as I have just ordered some parts for a 266se and he does actually have stock of the Meteor 288xp piston kits. They have just arrived and he obviously hasn't had time to update the website. Perhaps give them a call.

288 XP...... let the adventures begin.

The cylinder was the original early Mahle non decomp cylinder. It's an 1989 300 anniversary edition, so one of the early ones. The top cover was brand new genuine Husky with the decomp hole already drilled (about $60NZD from the dealer). The saw was rebuilt from the ground up with the cases...

288 XP...... let the adventures begin.

I'm also from NZ @Bob Hedgecutter and hear exactly what you're saying. I'm way more of a Stihl guy (with lots of saws) but do have a soft spot for the 2 series Huskys. Heres a 288 I built earlier in the year and sold to a friend. What an awesome old saw with a very distinctive...

Best saw to buy for firewood?

The crux is that the saw you need all depends on what you're cutting for firewood....... MS661CM is my 'small' saw for this stuff. That's my friends 036 beside my 084 which is wearing a 44 inch bar. I believe the wood may be Montery Cypress or some sort of pine.

    "You Suck" Thread 2019--Pics required!

I totally agree, either way you look at it it's a great deal! I love getting firewood and I have a HUGE stash of Australian Eucalyptus which I can process and give to him. Some of it is so large that a 42 inch bar from both ways just meets in the middle, that's my MS660 with 36 inch bar: And...

    "You Suck" Thread 2019--Pics required!

I think I might have got a score on Friday! I caught up with my father's cousin who is now 80 and used to process firewood for a job. I knew he had an 084 and after a few discussions we worked out a deal where I supply him with 4 cord of wood in exchange for the saw, it runs really well but...

    "You Suck" Thread 2019--Pics required!

Well..... on Tuesday I got an email from my friendly local Stihl dealer that went like this: 'Morning Mark, We have a older MS 441 here that has been written off by the customers insurance company. I’m not sure why it has been written off as the piston looks fine. It has been sitting here for...
