    MS280 Spittin Spark Plugs

As mentioned, it depends on whether or not you are the one doing the labor. Here is a chinese cylinder & piston set on auction for $40 shipped: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Cylinder-Piston-For-STIHL-MS280-MS270-Chainsaw-Rep-OEM-1133-020-1203-/391612614878?hash=item5b2dee48de:g:hNQAAOSwNSxVDvgB...

    Oil mix mistake

I wouldn't say that Pepsi is gross, but I sure siphoned enough gas in my misspent youth that reading about sucking Pepsi through a straw in a gasoline thread is gross because from just reading that I now cannot get the taste of gas out of my mouth! Regarding the initial question, as mentioned...

    Bar oil pouring made easy

Lots of great ideas here, I'm going to look for one of those blitz screw on funnels next time at wal mart too. Me, I seem to use a few different methods but I really like one quart oil bottles in the winter since you can squeeze them. I seem to use a lot of gallon jugs in the summer but I try...

gorilla glue use on a chainsaw

Thanks for posting that. My experience has been that it fills gaps but only by expansion and it can also compress easily so joints can loosen up easily. BUT, I'll try it on smaller gaps sometime and see what happens.

If you could only have 2, what would they be?

I pretty much just cut firewood and clean up trees and brush. I currently have 3 saws but if I went to two I'd have one in the 40-50cc range and one in the 60+cc range. With a 14-16" bar on the smaller one and an 18" bar on the larger, and an extra bar for it that is 24-32" long. I don't want to...

    MS290-390 replacement cylinder question

I'm planning on getting a rim sprocket eventually, I have a 30" bar made for 3/8" chain and it would be convenient to bolt on for the occasional large tree. Regarding the rim sprockets, I haven't really looked yet but where are some places to get them? I pretty much buy all my chainsaw stuff...

    MS290-390 replacement cylinder question

I just managed to find one of my testers, I have 3 or 4 of them but of course I can't seem to find the nice one when I really need it.. Anyway, compression is 143 PSI but it was measured with an old gauge so it may be a few PSI's off, I'll check it again when I find another one but the way my...

    40-50cc chainsaw (what to get)

If your MS250 has the wrenchless chain adjustment, that is going to be the first thing you miss when you get a different saw. If it does not, then get another MS250 with that feature.

It's Always Fun To Work Around These When Doing Brush Cleanup

Is that one getting ready to shed its skin? The eyes look rather milky is why I am asking, but it may have been if you used a flash when taking the picture also?

    MS290-390 replacement cylinder question

I haven't run it much yet, just to verify that it started and ran. I need to mix up a separate batch of slightly rich break in fuel first, may not be necessary but makes me feel better. I'll take a compression reading in the next day or two GM

    stihl 660 trouble

My first 2 thoughts are to check the fuel filter in the tank and also the ignition module. If you can cut some wood by an air compressor, and then when it starts acting up spend 1/2 a minute bowing off the module with compressed air to cool it down and see if that makes a difference.

    MS290-390 replacement cylinder question

OK I admit it I lied, I pulled the muff today and measured it, 49mm so I guess I have a 64 cc saw instead of a 56 cc one. Anyway, as far as I know everything else is still stock 290 stuff. Should I worry about a different carburetor? Seems to run fine but I haven't gotten into any wood yet...

    MS290-390 replacement cylinder question

Instead of a straw I'll just use the depth probe on a digital caliper- put the piston up enough to cover the port, take the measurement from the exhaust flange to the piston, hit zero and move the piston down and measure to the other wall. Works faster and more accurately than pushing a straw...

    MS290-390 replacement cylinder question

Just picked up a new to me MS290 that has had the cylinder replaced. Peering under the plastic I noticed it has a decompression port plugged off, so I am wondering if anyone has seen cylinders other than the 49mm/MS390 jug that had a compression relief valve? If I were really curious I'd...

Stihl 028 AVS stalls when warm after nieghbour borrowed it

Also, if he gassed it up with his own fuel at some point you may want to dump that out and put your own, known good, fuel in it.

Old Mall two man chainsaw find

Back in the 70's I bought a couple of those at a farm auction, they had "Mercury Kiekhafer" motors on them if I remember correctly. Like most farm machinery down here, they had been used until they died, then brought back to life and used until they died again.... I was thinking they would...
