    Ripsaw questions

Ripsaw Blades I've haven't been on the site much lately but happened by and noticed the thread. Looks like your getting advice from some of the most experienced Ripsaw users around. I did try a different blade mfg on my ripsaw and had problems with wavy cuts. I totally agree with...

Big CSM frames, who's the best

I'm still riding the fence on which one to buy. Like Bluerider said, the big Granberg frames use extra crossbracing so a complete mill is in order if I use them. I'd really like to have a closer look at the GB mill before deciding. How much customizing did you have to do to your's before it...

Big CSM frames, who's the best

I finally got around to picking up a big bar (60") for my 084 and need a few opinions on a new csm. I've got a 36" MKIII now and could either pick up a set of 60" rails but I'm not sure if the big granberg uses the same hardware in their 54"(+/-) mill. I wouldn't mind just buying another...

    good night sawing...

Blade lube I might be one of the few using this combination for blade lube, but when sawing pine I use a mix of 75% diesel and 25% bar oil. I set it to drip about one drop per second or two and usually end up without any buildup on the blade or tires. I did go to the urethane tires shortly...

    Used Ripsaw rebuild help.

If the clutch hub is loose and you found a few needle bearings I'd start with replacing the bearing that rides between the crank and clutch, a normal wear item and just a few $$. Maybe a quick inspection thru the plug hole and/or muffler cover for scoring and a compression check using the...

    Its too hard to choose

Great choice, from all I've heard along with my limited experience with an all manual mill you'll be glad you chose the hyd model. Keep us posted with pictures and thoughts on the mill itself.

    Question about milling

The Katrina/Rita wood is still out there but the best are the trees that are layed over either on top of others or didn't make it all the way down. Those still seem to be pulling from the root bundle and somewhat surviving. Most of the trees that went down or most of the way down are a little...

    Playing this weekend....

Glad you finally were able to take possession of the mill. How did that pecan and post oak cut? Were you able to get straight boards out of it? That'll tell you a little about what to expect from the mill, especially if it had been down awhile. What bands are you using? Keep us posted.

    Question about milling

Hello Chas, welcome to the forum. Nothing much to add to the already good advice you've gotten. Be forewarned, this can be everybit as addicting as woodworking :D There's a lot of good reading in this forum, let us know if you need any help learning the search abilities of the site.

    Its too hard to choose

There's a used peterson wpf on their website, looks like the owner lives in Florida. I think it was an 8" 2002 model with about 50 hrs for $8,000. One of the big advantages to a swinger (aside from being able to mill really big dia logs) is the abiility to add a slabbing attachment. I just...

What are you building with your milled wood? merged

Thanks to all for the compliments. I spaced the framing on 4 ft centers and used 2x4's for lathing to help with the spans. For the roofing I used 26 ga R Panel Galvalume, also to help with the spans. I've been all over the roof and didn't notice any problems with dents or saging. My...

What are you building with your milled wood? merged

millshed from stormdamaged trees I've really enjoyed reading this thread and have a little to add in an effort to keep it going. I decided I needed a place to store the mill when it's not being used and a place to stack a little wood to air dry. All the wood used was cut from storm damaged...

    band Blade set

I don't have any experience with the following guage but it looks like it would do ok. Suffolk (Timberwolf) Set Guage I use the Cooks manual setter that has a built in dial indicator and can say that even though it slow going it's very accurate at both setting the teeth and checking the set.
