Climber/Arborist/WISP Technician in Beautiful Bend Oregon

I'm leaving the company and helping them find my replacement. As you may see, its been a while since I've been active on here so hit me at chrisvaughan2012@gmail if you have questions. Or respond through the ad and you'll get the owner. It's a pretty easy gig compared to production work. Lots...

Crazy people a bigger hazard than we realize

Agreed, I've heard far too many odd stories about neighbors threatening workers with violence and firearms. I don't know if they just stand out to me due to how sensational they are (shark attacks) or if they are as big a danger as they seem. I'll bet clearance folks have quite a bit more...

urban forestry instructor on the oregon coast

chris v here still. I tried to "re-invent" my user name since moving from Bend for this job a year ago. Apparently I'm failing. anyway- I realize that most people are slammed out there right now, but I'm disappointed in the lack of interest. I heard about the these positions years ago...

    Wind resistance and Conifers.

Interesting thread Unity. I think you will find more info in here and Buzz if you search for it. I often wonder on a basic level how effective we can be at this. I figure the physics of trees and wind interacting are somewhat complicated when you figure in how trees oscillate and use what...

    THE WILD TREES, Richard Preston

Good Read yes. I can't speak to the facts specifically, but anyone whose climbed big conifers would second guess the "historical accuracy" of the first chapter. I felt he was embellishing so well that I almost quit the book. The rest was good, but I resent the device of "hooking" the reader...

    Load ratings of climbing equipment?

The thing that freaks me out is that our saddles our rated for "work positioning" not "fall protection". Always give me a second thought prior to climbing above my TIP. Especially looking down at the silly little clevis' on my Butterfly which probably pull at angles which will double any load...

    Sporotrichosis from suguoi bite?

Oh, I've basically googled the heck out of this subject, but sometimes its best to just put it out there. Hopefully this thread may help someone in the future.

    Sporotrichosis from suguoi bite?

Sorry to be selfish and ask for comments on this folks, been real busy the past three months. Perhaps with our recent snow I'll be back in contribution mode soon. Anyway,... nailed my knee real good with the sugoi about six weeks ago. Skin healed well as bone stopped the saw from cutting...

    Ice climbing

Wisconsin isn't that far from Alberta right? You've gotta get out there! Or, the Bozeman Ice Fest is this weekend. A great venue to learn from experienced folks and try out sweet gear. I may bail out of here myself and hit the road.

    Economic Stimulus Work

How about it, is anyone going through the various sized and misshapen hoops to get some of these jobs. Specifically, I am talking about federally funded projects filtering down to different agencies. We've gone for a couple and the process of bidding is definitely involved. So far we...

    Polycarbonate or Kevlar?

After the the last "took an 020 to the face" thread, I have been looking for more protection. This weekend I considered picking up a full face kayakers helmet. Looks hot but effective. Oh, I am kevlar/carbon fiber in the HB "el cap" I like it.

    Climbing fuel cans

If you want aluminum, MSR fuel bottles appear to work. At REI or you may find H20 bottles. I would try plastic water or pop bottle with a small mouth. Run webbing under the bottom and secure with duct tape.
