Want to plant hardwoods, should I start with 12” seedlings or 4-6’ trees?

This is how I did mine 32 years ago and trees are 8 - 10 " diameter. The only thing I would ad is, over plant and thin out in 10 years trees, will be about 5' +. You want competition, as this promotes growth! It will take 2 -3 years to see them above the grass and replant again in bare areas...

Any of you have issues with your hands?

When I chainsaw or do other hand activities all day, I put my fingertips together and push and as you push against your finger tips rotate your wrists. Do this for about 30 seconds and repeat a couple more times. Also do this before starting as a warm-up.

    Wild black cherry chips?

You could try. I was always taught, in order to keep wood from absorbing moisture you needed to have it heated to about 200*F, otherwise it will re-absorb the moister. Just sounds like a lot of work to me for $5.

Help with arborvitae - dw not happy

Short answer NO, but you can spend some time and cut the brown area out and pull starting from the bottom some branches down into the brown area. Place a planter for flowers in front is another option. In the end you still have old bushes and I would bite the bullet and freshen up the front...

Been a mechanic for 40+ years and will retire at the end of this year at 57. 30 years ago I was fully certified ASE in both Auto and Diesel, because I was told it mattered to the customer. I discovered the customer had no idea what ASE was all about, they just wanted whatever they had broken...
