Need help on deciding a new saw

I haven't used the Echo 590, but I've run a few other Echos (mostly a CS501P and CS3510) and have been happy with them. But I also have a Husky 555 and if you can get one on sale, I'd recommend it. Our 501P was in the shop for a bit. In the meantime I broke out the old Jonsered 2153 (red version...

    Chainsaw 2 Cycle Oil Poll

For years just used Stihl Ultra or Husky HP we got from our local dealers. Based on what I read here, switched to AmSoil Sabre at 40:1. When our local stores stopped carrying Sabre, switched to Echo Red Armour at 40;1. Honestly I can't tell a difference with any of them. Just use a decent oil @...

    Husqvarna 40-50cc saws

I've owned and used Husky 339xp and 346 xp in the past and currently have an Echo 501P. I like the 501. It's probably the lightest pro 50cc saw. There is a lot of plastic; I guess that helps with the weight. Does seem a bit flimsy compared to other pro saws, but it's held up well for a few years...

    40:1 in my new saw

The carb replacement might be a great idea. But if it were my new saw, I wouldn't do it while the saw's still under warranty.

What's the most common MISTAKE newbies make while sharpening a chainsaw chain?

I use the Timberline sharpening jig. Unless one flips the jig around after doing half the teeth, you're sharpening 1/2 the teeth from inside to the outside, and the other half from the outside to inside. I've always been content with the results in the wood.

    Scrench mod and carry

I wear Stihl wrap chaps. There's a handy zippered pocket on the left thigh just right for a scrench. It's nice not having to walk back to the truck to tighten my chain a bit.

    Husky 339xp?

Got one in 2004 or so. Had it until a shop burglary in 2011 or 2012. May be ugly, but it was a great, little, lightweight saw. You may find you're reaching for your other saws far less when that little 339 can handle the chores just as well.

Help me justify a new saw purchase

As others have said, get what you want. If you got the big saw Joneses, go that route. And while you may not think it yet, at some point you may pick up a light weight 30-40cc saw (Husky 339XP & Echo 3510, in my case) and find it can handle an awful lot of what you cut, and why was I lugging...

Which Limbing saw with good anti-vibe?

Used to have a 339XP until it was stolen. Great little saw. Felt like it punched above it's weight for a 40cc saw. Could say the same thing about Stihl's MS241. Sadly, they don't make either anymore. This winter I went even smaller with Echo's 3511. Almost 2 lbs lighter than 339 and 241. If you...

    New Echo Pro saws

One item no one's brought up: Got an Echo 501 a while back. One day, ran some fishing line into the bar. Ended up buying new bar from dealer. Less than 2 tanks of gas later, bar sprocket siezed up. Went to get part number from Echo website and saw there were 2 reviews. Both had same issue I had...

    Bonsai

Those look great. Last spring I started on some bonsai projects with some small red cedars I dug up locally, as well as a Hinoki cypress and Japanese cedar I bought at garden center and pruned and repotted. So my stuffs almost a year old now and has a long way to go

    Cut Stump Treatment

Esean makes a good point about season. I have doubts about stump treatment when sap is flowing up strongly in late winter or spring. Some species bleed more than others when cut. I've no experience w/ Garlon 3 in water, but Garlon 4 in oil (1:3 ratio, per label, I think) is effective. However...

    Cut Stump Treatment

Crossbow mixed with diesel oil or basal oil at about an 8-10% solution, in my experience, is effective. Some species, like black locust and autumn olive, are just hard to kill.

    35cc Echo saws

I was on-line this aft looking at Oregon 57 link, 3/8LP chain. Was also looking at the VXL for a more aggressive cut. I'll probably order some this week.

    35cc Echo saws

I bought the CS 3510 yesterday. Ran 2 tanks of gas through it today on red cedar. Can't get over how crazy light it feels in my hands. Have worked mostly with 50 & 60 cc saws. Feels a little "cheap" in some ways, but I guess that comes with being made so light. Noticed a slight rattling noise...

    35cc Echo saws

Wanted opinions on 3510 and 361. Very close in weight & engine displacement. Sizeable price difference. Is 361 a pro grade saw? Echo website spec's don't give hp rating for either. Is the 361 worth the added cost?

    Fishing line in saw

As a follow up to this: eventually gave up on getting the line out of the sprocket, so I bought a new Echo bar from the dealer (by the way, there was no fishing line sucked into the clutch). We don't do a lot of sawing during the warmer months so I didn't use it much. But after only a few...

    Fishing line in saw

Was cutting small willows by a lake last week and wound some monofilament into the saw. Got it out of the chain and off the sprocket, but can't get it out of the nose sprocket on the bar (it's not a replaceable bar tip). Tried lubing it and tapping the sprocket to get it to move forward or...

    Husqvarna 565 & 555, Forgotten Saws?

I bought a Husky 555 several years ago and have been very happy with it. Would've liked a 562 but didn't want to spend the extra $. I have no regrets. Sometimes I might wish I had a lighter, personal saw, but it gets stuff cut. And I don't know why, but I use a timberline sharpener for work...

Husqvarna 40 cc compare and contrast.

What about the 339XP? Used to have one. Thought it was a great saw for the weight. Wish it had never been stolen.
