New Climber - What are the most common causes of accidents on DdRT?

Thanks. I will definitely pick up a throw cube soon. Do you descend on your blake's hitch, or do you use a belay device.

New Climber - What are the most common causes of accidents on DdRT?

After watching dozens of youtube videos and reading The Tree Climber's Companion, I took the plunge and ordered the basic gear for a MRS/DdRT setup like the one shown in this video -- clove hitch on my harness carabiner and a blake's hitch for ascending/descending. I'm using a friction saver in...

Replacing Poulan Pro 5020AV - Will I be happy with Stihl MS251 Wood Boss?

Thanks. I did replace the fuel line (and the primer bulb/line) as part of the carb replacement.

Replacing Poulan Pro 5020AV - Will I be happy with Stihl MS251 Wood Boss?

Thanks for all the advice. After replacing the carb on my Poulan Pro and still not getting it to run properly, I took some of the advice from this thread and picked up an Echo CS-590 Timber Wolf. I took it out for an hour right after I got it and all I can say is "wow!" I'm now kicking myself...

Replacing Poulan Pro 5020AV - Will I be happy with Stihl MS251 Wood Boss?

Thanks. I'll check out the 50/55cc Huskies. I'd like to stay under $400. The Poulan Pro has actually held up fairly well for me. I didn't have any experience with a Chainsaw, but my new home was hit by a major storm several years ago and we had 20 mature red oaks (12-20" diameter) go down...

Replacing Poulan Pro 5020AV - Will I be happy with Stihl MS251 Wood Boss?

Thanks. I keep my chains sharp and the rakers filed. The MS261 looks great, but I don't use my saw enough to justify that price tag.

Replacing Poulan Pro 5020AV - Will I be happy with Stihl MS251 Wood Boss?

I have a Poulan Pro 5020AV that i've used for cutting blown-down oaks for firewood. I've been having some trouble with the saw lately and am considering replacing it with the MS251. The Stihl has lower displacement and rated power, but I'm wondering if the Stihl is going to perform better for...

Tipping Rootballs from Blowdowns Back into Stump Hole

I really have too many stumps to easily haul away especially given the steep terrain -- we had about 2 dozen large oaks go down around our house (including one through our house) in the derecho this summer. I'm also a bit nervous about climbing around on and beating on some of the larger balls...

Tipping Rootballs from Blowdowns Back into Stump Hole

I have several blowdowns that have already been cut off close (< 6 ft.) to the stump. Unfortunately, they didn't rock back into the hole and I'm left with several unsightly root balls sticking up into the air. I'm wondering if there is an effective way to get the root balls to tip back...

Best Cart For Hauling from Woodpile to House (Uphill, Uneven Ground)

Good suggestions. I'm going to try out a dolly and wagon (kids wagon with big tires) to see how those work on my terrain before buying anything. I also might be able to get my hands on a 8 year old John Deere mower without the mowing deck. If I put chains on and fill the tires with fluid, do...

Best Cart For Hauling from Woodpile to House (Uphill, Uneven Ground)

I live on a fairly steep lot and my woodpiles are down the hill from my house. I'm looking for the most efficient way to move my firewood up to my house. I don't have to go too far (50-150 feet depending on the pile), but the incline combined with the soft forest ground makes it difficult to...
