    Klotz 100 octane race fuel

I thought that octane, by definition, was a fuel's resistance to ignite. The higher the octane the longer it takes to ignite, I think. Burning a higher octane fuel than required (to prevent pre-detonation or pinging) is simply a waste of money and may cause carbon build up over time, which...

How-to on greasing a Stihl clutch bearing?

so I greased the bearings on all three saws yesterday, and I seriously can't believe that I believed my mechanic...I was noodling when the bearing failed, so the assumption was that the noodles were absorbing all the oil and that caused the failure. So I had been making sure to keep it...

How-to on greasing a Stihl clutch bearing?

well it sounds like I need to grease my bearing then...I was told (after I replaced my burnt up bearing) to just keep it clean, the oil from the oiler will be enough and it will live forever. So then, what grease do you guys like for that? I wonder how long my bearing would live without me...

How-to on greasing a Stihl clutch bearing?

I burned a bearing up this summer on my 441 RCM while noodling a 225 year old ash, clogging up the clutch area major... and was told by a mechanic to not grease it, but just make sure it is getting oiled as used. so now when I noodle I make sure to not clog it up like I used to...so far so good

    441 smoked clutch/brake?

went to stihl dealer...they only had the e-clips in stock. had to order three clutch springs and bearing. $30.00+ and I have to wait. I hope this fixes the saw. should I go ahead and remove the clutch or just leave it in and swap springs when they arrive in a few days?

    441 smoked clutch/brake?

is there any reason to remove the actual clutch? like maybe there are "shoes" that wear and may need replaced? or is it just metal to metal? thanks again for all the information and advice. so far I need bearing and springs (and a new e-clip...) I think worm gear is spinning freely...

    441 smoked clutch/brake?

clutch seems to rotate but it seems like there is a squeeky-ness in there....I oiled up the bearing (small 1/2" bearing around the crank?) and it still squeaks, any thing else to look for in the bearing? there is noise there I think. put it back together and ran with bar and chain still spins...

    441 smoked clutch/brake?

running my 441 RCM 25 inch chisel noodling some 200 year old ash trees up. This tree is truly a match for this saw and right now the tree is winning. Saw died and wouldn't restart. Took off bar and discovered that the sprocket was locked up, guessing it somehow got pinched from all of the...

    Advice about first splitter purchase?

I have the Northern tool (North Star) 37 ton with 4-way wedge (splits 3x faster) and honda GX..starts first pull every time...sips fuel and I've split @100 cords in the last year with it. I really like it got it on sale for 1899 last Jan. (2013). Russ

Should extras be included with new Stihl Chainsaw?

I'm sure some will tell differently, but my dealer gives me nothing but the bill, nothing extra and no discounts even though I've bought 5 saws, a trimmer and a blower in the last 2 years! That's ok with me cause all I want is the saw...

    Noodling Saw

ported 441 RCM, 25 inch chisel...noodling is fun and there is no such thing as wood too big or gnarly. I have a splitter but don't want to lift heavy logs so I noodle... and I never want to use my splitter in vertical, so I keep noodling until the wood is easily able to be lifted up to the...

    STIHL MS200T or 192T?

I have a 192 that lives in my 4-wheeler. I love it because it is very light (lighter than the 200) and starts very easily every time. I have only done a MM on it because with that saw it's not really about power, it's the light weight that makes it easy to use, like 7 pounds. Just use it to...

    maintaining flippy caps?

thanks for your help everyone. I cleaned everything up, without removing anything, and put the cap back on and so far, no leaks...I think there must have been debris wedged in there somewhere...I will know more in the morning

    maintaining flippy caps?

Ok, without letting this turn into a "I hate flippy caps" thread...( I actually like them) I have a 261c that has been leaking bar/chain oil. I have just been laying it on its side so it won't leak and started thinking...surely someone smarter than me has figured out a solution to this little...

    splitter engines?

I have a northstar 37 ton splitter with a Honda GX and it starts on first pull, every time, with an easy pull. Has an idle drop down when the 4-way retracts into the garage...doesn't use much fuel. I don't have much to compare it to, but as far as ease of starting, it starts easier than any...
