Is this actually big enough for most splitting needs? I'm in no rush to get the splitting done and found this splitter on CL for under $500

10-20 ton will get 99% of every thing done, bunch of people running the 7 ton electrics and doing ok. tonnage vs wedge shape, a big fat fast spreading wedge takes more brute force than a long thin wedge with a spreader behind it, and those fat wedges transmit a lot more force into the beam and foot plate assembly before stuff starts to split. Kinda like the difference of a 10# sledge vs a 10# splitting maul.

I'm not sure how companies rate or get their tonnage numbers. I have an honest 15 tons and have yet to find anything that I can't split. Sometimes I have to chip my way around the edges but it gets it done. I use the 4 way 90% of the time and I cut my wood a minimum of 24" and most of it is over 15" in diameter.
