254, differences in clutch covers?

Was cleaning my 254s, and noticed that the older late 80s one has a small metal plate, but the newer 93 doesn't?

Is this normal? It doesn't look like it missing, as I don't even see a spot for the mounting screw?

The one with the oiler plate is most likely a 257 cover.

The metal chain guide goes on the later alloy cover (without the lugs at the back).

Thanks guys. That makes sense with the one being a 257 cover, as that is not the original cover to that saw. When I had that saw brought back to life by my local dealer, he did use some parts off a parts saw he had.

Is one style "better" than the other?
