I see mixed opinion on this. Some say it works just fine. Some say it will wear the sprocket and chain drive links quickly. Some say you need to special order a LP sprocket that fits a normal full sized Stihl rim clutch or turn down a 404 to fit.

I've ordered a 3/8LP bar that will fit my 026 and would like to make sure I have a sprocket that will be ok with the setup.

Can I safely (for the chain and sprocket) run 3/8LP on a regular 3/8 rim? If this isn't advisable, where do I find the correct rim sprocket? I'd like to run at least 8T since 14" of LP chain is what I'd call light duty for an 026.

I think @Homelite410 makes a 3/8 LP rim that fits your application.

I’ve heard mixed reports that a standard 3/8 will work just fine and others say it will eat the chain up.

According to Oregon, the 3/8 rim works fine for both 3/8 and 3/8LP. I'm running it on my 490 and have not had any problems with it.

Lots of Chinese saws come with regular 3/8 rims and 3/8lp chain, I had two they worked fine. These were 7 tooth rims not 8 tho.

    You don't want to run a 3/8 8 pin on a 50cc saw. Steve

If your running 3/8lp chain on it I think you do.
    I ran a 7 with 3/8lp on a 54cc Chinese saw, it wouldn't load the saw an 8 would've been better.

Regular 3/8? No. Not enough saw. Picco and 14" bar would be pretty light duty for 50cc.
