3 way valve question

First post been lurking for quite some time. Anyway I put in an OWB and plumbed my water to air exchangers with shark bites a couple of years ago. They are leaking so I intend on plumbing them in correctly like I should have to begin. Before I do I have a question. Been seeing some installs withs 3 way zone valves plumbed at the exchanger bypassing the exchanger when the furnace blower is not on. Will these valves really increase the efficiency? It looks like the ones I need are around $170 a piece, just curios if I should install these while I'm at it.
