346 Xp/350 build?

been busy reading here and watching yt. Learned they take the carb from a 357/359 and they install it on the 350 build. My question is which carb? I see different carbs listed for the 357/359 saws. Thanks ahead of time, bill

I believe the hda 199 is the most desired one along with the metal clamp on the intake boot

Are you porting this saw or leaving it stock?

EL42 seem to work ok on mine.

I’m porting it, not changing the transfer timing. I have the intake stuff from the 357 Xp /59 just need the carb.

I have both the el42 and the hd199 on my two 357xp's. If the hd199 is built properly, it's an awesome carb. The el42 seems to run fin but, the saw with the hd199 definitely runs stronger. Both saws are about the same age and have similar compression.

Any carb from a 359 or 357 works fine on a 350/346xp. Ported or not. No need to use the 359/357 intake track.

But the intake parts from 357 Xp /359 are bigger, more air flow bigger air filter.

I tried both on the same saw, no difference. Measure both ends of a 357 intake, then measure one off a 346, it might surprise ya.

The larger carb by itself makes a difference though.
