A 572 is readjusting carb settings 10 times a second. How fast can you do it? Updated system that went through a learning curve on 562's and it was tested for over 2 years before releasing, so says dealer. I like mine, tree service friend just traded 2-562's for 2- 572's and his men have nothing but good comments, but than again, his one worker is an animal and likes the 395 best.

044 046 hybrid. I know the thread is between 461 462. I personally never saw need for 460 or 461 for power to weight id take hybrid any day. If I wanted bigger I'd just skip 460 and go to 064 wich is same bore as 460 2 mm bigger stroke 7 more c.c. and yet again only around 3/4 lb more in weight then a 460. This being said is why there is no 460 or 461 or 462 in my line up.

My early 064 weighed exactly the same 14.6 lbs that my 460 did. The 064 has better torque for running 32 + inch bars, but the 460 was faster and just as strong on the 28" and under bar lengths. I thought of the 064 as a better PNW fallers saw and the 460 better for firewood.

So what you said is basicly same thing I said wich sums up reason why I have a 044 as well as 044 hybrid and a 064. Therefore I see no reason in a 460 461 or 462 for the weight when a hybrid is lighter and will do the same thing and a 064 weighing the same or slightly more then a 460 or 461. Also if your cutting firewood a 036 360 or 361 is all the firewood saw a man needs

Don't wanna steal this post but I've been reading along as I've recently been thinking about scouping up a 461 before they are gone. What do you mean 461 is a waste with 20" or 25" bar? Only worth it running 28"+?

I'm not locked into a 461, but kinda itching to buy brand new. If one were to build a 044 hybrid are the parts to do so readily available? How do stock 044 or 046 hold up to 460, 461, and 462?

To me the 462 is at the disadvantage for reliability, it has more parts then the rest and the control modules are the same as the 261/362/661 and are known to be an issue on those models, some worse then others, but it does have the best filtration and spring AV that the rest dont. The best running of all the models listed and I have ran them all is the hybrid. The 462 is over priced also I'm, it costs what 90cc saws do.

Early 044's and first year 046's have much more aggressive porting and thereby stronger than later 044's, 046's, 440's and 460's. My early 046 was way stronger than my 460, and it weren't weak by any means. I'd like to see an early 046 go against a 461, I think it would take it. I bet a 10mm 044 would take a 462 as well. Those would be good comparisons.

I ran it against my saws I just listed Either of the 3 would take the 461 and sold it and never hesitated my decision I can honestly say I wasn't impressed at all with it.

I like to say that Stihl made a superior case design for 044 hybrids. It’s wider and has bigger tanks. Also a much bigger stronger crank. They called it an 046 case.

For pro work, I’d say 046/460 over 044 hybrid. The bigger case capacity gives it a broader torque curve.

Hybrids are plainly sportier. The tune much higher. In fact, they are the only saw I’ve ever built that keeps getting faster and faster the more I lean the tune. Most saws sound faster leaned out, but they cut in the same time through a log at a fatter/safer tune. Hybrids do not because of the Case capacity. The more you lean them out, the faster they go (to a point). One I did, after breakin, is tuned cold at 15300, comes out of wood at around 15800 after long cuts, and is perfectly safe and fat there.

Here’s a run I did with 272 pistons and a vid. In vid, saw still new. Highest rpm was 15k cold in last cut, the fastest cut. Saw has 1 full tank through it only.

Why not a ported saw is in comparison to next size up saw.? I'd put a slant fin 044 stock for stock against any 460 461 up to a 24 in bar any day of the week. Like I said for what they weigh I personally so no reason for one when you can have 044 then just bypass it and go to a 064 for power to weight.

I guess I just wasn't impressed with a stock 064 with a 28" bar. I wS with a 32", but that is getting away from.firewood length for me. A 505 is better yet as far as power to weight. Plus a 505 has much better AV.

I run a 28 in on my 064. Don't know what 505 is I'm a stihl guy or a 7910 dolmar
A 505 Poulan is an 84cc Partner designed saw made in Sweden. As light as an 064 with more power & speed. Spring A/V and better 32" balance than a 064 or 066. It was made in the 90's. The Jonny 930 87cc (same late 80's era as the 064) I had was way, way stronger than my 064, but weighed like a tank being all metal.
