Wasn't the 490 hotter than the 590?
490 = partner 5000+ ?
590 = partner 500 ?

590 is 45mm and closed port with 2 different cylinders used. Most 500 44mm open port and some 45mm open port. Just from what I saw owning many of them.

One I liked on 590

I was actually thimking about you when I was typing that. Lol.

The Poulan 525 is the best of those variants if I remember correctly.

Though a different platform the Poulan 335/ 336, 3300 etc. are no slouch either

I just run the chrome bore single ring craftsmans for my small saws. Unreal open ports. I just use 16" on the small saws.

stock for stock I liked the 550 and 545 over 346.

Doh, wrong with the model numbers again, I haven't thought about Partner 5000 variants for awhile. Long week at work, not enough sleep, memory not what it used to be..... Excuses, excuses.

I do it all the time now. Comes with age for me. Half of what I think anymore might not be right.

5000+

Cmon dude wtf ... 99% of the peeps run stock saws ... only 1% are Saw aficionados and of that 1% most run woods - ported saws ... we’re here playin in our own sandbox

That's a fact...

#racingchainsawsmatters

It's the only true measure of a chainsaw.

Nope.

I think the 590 is the hottest of the 50cc ones?

The 490 and 590 are both closed port...maybe some of the 490’s were open port, but none of the 590’s

There are many that know far more than me about this. Correct me if I’m wrong.

And yes, they are better lookin’ Partners

Good power, yes, but what I really like is the balance. There’s just a little more weight biased to the rear than all my other saws and that seems to agree with me. They handle better than anything else I have, imo.

Let's get back to basics: either the Husky 353 or the newer 346XP. Both models are available for $200 or more less than anything Sthl sells that comes close. You might be able to match either of them with a new Stihl, but you will pay through the nose and wonder why you did it after you walk out of the store.

261cm 18” 4.0hp 569.95—-550xp 18” 3.75hp 599.95 ; Not hard to tickle 5.0hp IF u know what you are doing on the 261cm ... ps 63 chain and a 16” bar the Husky is NOT going to outcut it in any scenario unless a guy puts a lot of work $$$ into it ... 562xp over 362cm ... maybe ... 550xp over 261cm nada !

I'm a Stihl guy. But the above is wrong. In a straight up cutting match between a stock MS261cm v2 and a 550xp, the Husky will take it 9 out of 10 times. Better throttle response and acceleration and wider power band.

The reason I have a 261 and not a 550 is the hot start issues. Period. I start and stop a saw all day doing tree jobs and the 261 has no issues, regardless of ambient temp.
