I vote 461 , i kind of wish I’d have waited and got a 462 but every time I cut with this saw it puts a smile on my face.
5-6 years ago I shipped a Homelite 7-29, I think it was 129CC's, with a 52" bar and helper handle to Australia, two boxes, $474. I grew up in the tree business and have run saws all my life. At 63, I still think of my 660 as a mid size saw. I can run it all day and still get out of bed the next day.
That is sort of like don't **** with an older farmer. All they have done is work hard all their lives. They might be old, but ain't soft.
I forget how we got on the subject at work one day. But a young guy pulled the old joke on me about, I don't have to out run the bear, I just have to out run you. I said yeah, you might be right. But, I know I can't out run the bear, so I'm gonna take my pocket knife and skin him, and make a coat out of his fur! Then I'm gonna whip your arse for making me skin a big old bear all by myself. But, it's all talk. I've got two new knees, my back always hurts, nerve damage in the hands from so many years of no anti vibe. Just getting old and fat. Can't put my saws down, they are about the only thing I can hear now.
Lads, I’ve found another 394. I can’t make out the details on the ID tag though, i can never decode them accurately - even with the help from the husky site. If anyone can read it, please yell out. https://imgur.com/gallery/Gnj0GBe
According to https://www.arboristsite.com/community/threads/husqvarna-61-date-of-manufacture.309253/#post-6323448 black tags started in 1987.
Interesting. That would have been around the same time as the Pioneer, Poulan & Weed Eater incorporation. My thinking was that it might have happened in 1990 in order to differentiate between decades but I had forgotten that the coded tags only started in 1984.
Out of interest, what would be a reasonable price to pay for a rebuilt 394? I’ve found one for $1000 Aud. It looks the goods but unsure about that price!
Well, couldn’t pass up this beauty - actually got her brand new at a great price and she absolutely rips. I figure I’ll get it ported from a guy down here for $300 when I start to do some weekend slabbing.
