Can anyone tell me is there anything supposed to be in the plastic mesh filter? ie sponge .

If you are talking about the fine mesh and not the flocked filter, then no. The mesh keeps out the crud. Just wash it out with soap and water and it will last you. Compressed air works, too.

:agree2: If the saw gets used a lot, I would go with the soap and water at least once a month and use compressed air in between.
