No, I think the saw just runs a whole lot smoother - nothing to do with the mounts. My other saws are good quality ones with good mounts but they don't run so silky smooth. More power than the Dolmar, but more vibration.

Only dolmar I’ve ran was a 7900 and it was many years ago. I don’t remember how smooth it was. I just remember that it ripped.

Oh, heck ya...started in the late 90s

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in both hands, now in both shoulders.

Can't close my right hand into a fist any longer, the joints are too screwed up
Yeah...you definitely have problems sir! :surprised3:
May have to sell all those shiny Stihls:rolleyes: Because they have the crappiest AV(except the 261, 362 & 462)

I don't get the cramps with a chain saw but have several times when removeing bricks for a remodel with a hammer and chisle.
For me a palm size amount of salt like you would put in home made soup. drink about 24 FL OZ of water.
I keep jars with Dill pickle juice in the fridge to ease leg cramps and some times other cramps.

I have trouble with my hands going numb, thought it was white finger due to using saws for the last twenty years but it turned out that the disks in my neck are collapsing it's called cervical spondylosis.

Sorry to hear that bud. Surgery in the near future? I’m not up to date with the latest options are these days?

Thanks, I have spoken to a specialist, they think it's too risky operating at the moment, would have to be a bit more lack of feeling before the risk would be worth it, I currently wake up with numbness in my hands and fingers which after a short while the feeling comes back and I have gradually increasing permanent numbness in my middle to pinky fingers. My thumb and index are not affected during the day. I initially thought it was carpal tunneling but sadly not!

I've been plagued with leg cramps for 25 years. Caused by heavy exertion and dehydration. (I get them in my thighs, usually during the night. Excruciating.)

Have tried everything, and for me the prevention comes down to several things. It's a lack of potassium (mostly) that causes cramps. So bananas are great, like 3--5 a day when working in the sun. But I don't like bananas, so for several years I've been doing cocoanut water--two cans a day when I work.

The other non-fail thing is vinegar. I do apple cider vinegar--swig it straight from the bottle, 4--5 good swallows (not an easy feat, but worth the effort if you've endured bad cramps). Some people swig pickle juice--same thing.

Also, I learned some years back that a hot shower was necessary to prevent cramps. And leg stretches in the shower.

With all this, I get the finger cramps too. Started a few years back.

Oh, and one more thing. I have a sweet tooth. Found out that too much sugar in the evening will cause cramps overnight.

Are you wearing wrist braces when sleeping? They help a lot. I also wear the elbow straps when running a saw or snowblower. My problem now is recurring plantar factitious. Takes quite a while to work out of it.

I hate to hear that about your neck, and numbness. I’m also experiencing some neck compression nerve issues no numbness though. Got firewood/chainsaw elbow three years ago in the left arm, got some treatment(shots) went away. Came back in both arms, developed shoulder issues too. Physical therapy worked great for a while, worked on the stretches and exercises a lot until it just crept back and I couldn’t shake it. Went to the latest doctor to check it out and he put me on dry needling (acupuncture needles in your muscles hooked to electric shock) for the elbows. Elbows are no longer in pain, both shoulders under the blades on the spine side started killing me. Couldn’t even pick anything up without pain and could hardly sleep. Talked to the doctor again and they decided to take xrays of my neck, mild compression in three disks. I have to stretch constantly all day, supposedly is going to help. Went back to physical therapy and the gal dry needled my shoulders along the spine and along the blade near the spine. Been a week without pain on the left side, she missed the right side. Neck has developed pain, it’s almost like they chased it away from the start all the way to the source. I am hopeful that I can continue to make progress with the therapy. It’s no picnic and I really hope I don’t develop anymore disk compression in my neck and back. I hope you are able to find relief and your pain stops!

Good luck with the recovery! For want of a better word, It's a real pain in the neck!!!
Thank you for the kind words, best wishes, Toby.

It's not easy working these sort of tools when you suffer from joint problems, I truly feel your pain! I have worn the splints in the past but they drive me up the wall when I'm trying to sleep!

Trouble with hands . . . Now 68, I've been dealing with aches & pains in various quarters for a long time. Leg cramps, arthritis, wrist and hand issues--been getting injections in my right knee for a couple years to keep it operating without severe pain. The older you get, the more it's just part of the deal. But I'm pleased to be upright & breathing, so I'll take what comes with the territory.

Harry, turnkey4099, is my hero. That guy is 85 and still getting after it.

Actually, I've found for years that whatever's bothering me, I notice it less when I'm working. You just power past the discomfort, and usually it fades from consciousness. Mostly.

But just in the last 2 weeks I've been plagued with pain in the outside of my right hand. It's located from my little finger back, and sometimes shoots up through the wrist. Can't find any position to make it go away. Work takes my mind off it, but I'm postponing most work (and much more) at the moment.

I blame it on whoever started this thread. This thing started about the same time.

I agree on working through stuff. Just when my hands close up I’m kinda done lol. I get crazy migraines all the time too. I’ve found out no matter how bad it is just get up and do something to take tour focus away from the pain. I remember last year I had one so bad I could hardly move so I decided to get up and cut the lawn. When I was done I was like wow my headaches about gone. Didn’t even notice it was going away as I was working.

If you need potassium and don't like bananas then try using Potassium salt, its marketed as lo-salt here for people that have to reduce their sodium intake but its a handy way of taking potassium in a sandwich or similar.
Take frequent breaks when cutting and using equipment, as you refill fuel and oil sit down and refill yourself with some kind of fluid.
This is a good recipe for an electrolyte replacement that is easy and cheap to make plus not full of colours and additives.
