Any tips to keep the stove from stinking the house up.

I would also say, it means you have reasonable airflow.
Warm air goes up. Cold air goes down.
Good chance your chimney is relatively cold.
The smell will go as soon as the chimbey is about the same temperature as outside.

Build a really hot fire then throw a few of these in at random times.

You know you relly don't want to be fooling the the mess of brushing the chimney your self.

I'm getting a petty strong creasote smell today. Its warm and humid.
Is the stove in use or are you done for the year...when the season is over for me i stretch a section of heavy plastic sheet across the flu top and seal it with the cap. Before doing this I'd get a whiff of stove smell on windy or muggy days.
