    That's a Beech.
    Edit, enlarged the nut, some kind of acorn.

    Not black Oak like we have here. Leaves wrong, as there are a lot of Oaks it could still be in that Family. Fruit does not look like anything from Beech family

    Valley oak, if you are in Fairfield ,California Quercus lobata
    Would be much easier to identify with a location and a leaf.
