I watched the little video on that Stickler site. The wood he is splitting would be easily split with a 12lb and maybe 8lb maul, as fast or faster. Notice they didn't make the video with knotty or twisted grain wood like elm.
Swinging a 12lb maul sounds like more work than sitting there in front of that thing but I can't see how that is good on your back working from a sitting position.
