An oak tree on my farm was damaged by a horse who peeled off a section of bark about 1 foot wide and 1 1/2 feet long. The tree is about 10-12" diameter. There is no damage to the underlying wood, just the bark is gone. Does this tree need any help from me to recover? Will it recover? Thanks,
Lynn

You wont have to do anything, the tree will heal over that area. I use the term "heal" loosely because the tree doesnt actually "heal". The tree actually grows around the wound. The only reason you would want to do anything is if the wound is a funny shape and it will "heal" funny. You might need to "clean" up the area. Since the size of the wound is so big and what is remaining is smooth, I personally wouldnt expect you to have to do anything.
Hope this helps,
Darin
