Anyone know what the cutoff year for a bucket truck is? I've heard after a certain point you're not suppoesed to use it. How often do the hydraulics need to be checked and certified?

asplundh and davey go by a 6 year renewal on all trucks, but for instance in just bought a 99 gmc 7500 with 32'000 miles. in great condition from asplundh. so dont go by there standards. just keep up on your certs and hydraulic lines

I wouldn't buy anything older then a 2000. But thats just me.

I got a 1973, but it only has 26,000 original miles on it.

depends on the lift model, the newer ones seem to have less of a life span (per manufacturer). fleet owned units are a no no if you have to buy an older one for financial reasons. but bottom line is keep them in good shape and inspect, inspect, inspect.

There is no cut off date for buckets. Its about the condition of the lift, if it can pass inspection every year, then you are good to go. My brother run's a 1972 65' sky worker that my dad use to own, the bucket had been reconditioned and mounted on a 2004 F-750. Its a great unit, elevator and pretty compact, great for back yard tree removals. To him it was worth the investment to recondition the unit and mount it on a new truck. Bottom line is its not the age of the lift, its the condition and maintenance records of the lift.

I just bought a bucket truck from a buddy of mine. He never used it since he was going to make the truck into a farm fire truck. When I get home and pick it up, I plan on having it gone through by business that works on cranes and lifts. I'm curious if anyone on here recognizes the brand of lift? I plan on using it around my place with trees and painting the house.
