I have a California live oak (I believe that's the type) next to my house and am not sure if it is sick or not, the bark has looked like this for a long time and the tree has plenty of green, though not as green as neighbors trees. What should I do to help any problems it may have?

I thank you for any advice you can offer.

The odd bark texture can be from a host of mild fungal infections, usually when its young and there is not really anything that can be done. Typically its not serious. It does look like that tree needs a cable and some more rooting area. Check the ISA website and find an Arborist nearby to have a look. There is a Bartlett Office in San Gabriel that will take good care of you, if your within their footprint. Good luck! and thanks for posting.

Might be some smooth patch but I would also take a closer look for Kretzschmaria or perhaps another Xylariaceae fungus.
