I bought a grinder six months ago, used it then and its sat since. But I also haven't cut a single round since then either. It's still convenient to be able to "reset" a chain to a new starting point.
I think I said about finding a batch of soft Oregon files a while back...one sharpening and they were junk. My Stihl file (which is ten years old at this point) is still going strong.
I do prefer to hand sharpen, usually every tank or so, usually six swipes per tooth...
