I use Brake Clean for cleaning my old barn find saws. It goes on sale here , buy one, get one free, so comes to about $2.50 a can. For a new, in use saw, I just use the compressor to blow them out. The Brake Clean is pretty aggressive, and will cut the paint off some old saws. But, it will clean the old greasy oil soaked saw dust out of the fins on an engine quick. It doesn't hurt the plastic on Stihls. I grew up in the tree removal business, have been out of it for 35 years and still buy a saw every other week or so. Much cheaper than old cars!
I used brake clean in my old mculloch super pro 60 to clean it up when i first got it. However after a week i went to take it apart and noticed the rubber hoses were now rotted and cracked. They werent before and my only conclusion was that it was the brake clean. I dont use it any more around rubber and i only use carb cleaner when checking for intake leaks.

A side note, carb cleaner with bleach when used on an intake creates a very very toxic gas when the engine is running! I had an air cleaner soaked in brake clean and fired up my pressure washer to dry it out and i thought i was gonna pass out from the exhausst! This aas outside too!

Well, yeah, I guess that may be true. I don't have a 72". My biggest is a 45", I was stuck on 40 saws, but last week I found a Sachs Dolmar KMS4. it's only 58CC's, but I've got to buy it. Then in 2 weeks I'm going to an auction for an old White Poulan with a 48" bar. I'm getting closer to 72", then I can quit.

Dont worry, neither do I...........................yet :) kidding of course. :D

Bahahaha, I wouldn’t even get a response, i’d get the “you better be joking” look or the eye they give you that makes your mind quickly think of excuses for getting one like how “cheap” said item purchased was and how “useful” it will be!

Best thing I have found when I get something new is to either say nothing to her at all or tell her it was 10x cheaper than it was...! Sometimes she shocks me and tells me that 10x cheaper price is still expensive! “Ahh yeah... if only you knew dear”

I have found throwing m&m chocolates at her from a distance helps too..

I know I can't stop.

I try for a month or 2 but then a saw ends up coming home.

In the last year I've bought 14 saws, its bad!!

Nice thing is though, guys are now offering me wood to cut cause I pretty much have a saw to tackle any situation around here.

Careful!!! Some brake clean formulas create phosgene gas when exposed to high temps. Read the label. https://emergency.cdc.gov/agent/phosgene/basics/facts.asp
