I have a Freightliner FL70 with a 17 foot dump box that the motor locked up in. I bought another FL70 that has a shorter wheel base. I want to switch the box and hoist to the new truck. Does anyone know a rule of thumb for how much of the dump box needs to be in front of the rear wheels for safe load distribution and dumping?
Thank you in advance for any advice/help!

You could go with a 120” cab to axle. That would leave you a 7 foot overhang. I would not go shorter than that.whats your cab to axle measurement now?
