Using a Clayton 1802. I was wondering about the "secondary heat chamber". Is it supposed to be burning up there or just create a longer smoke path? Us Stove lady said there shouldn't be flames up there but I hear others say that there should be. Just wondering if anybody had any experience with this? Thanks

Don't confuse a secondary heat exchanger for secondary combustion . The Clayton just basicaly has a shelf area to hold the heat in longer

Sometimes, under just the right circumstances, with really dry wood, you can get secondary combustion in that chamber. But not reliably. You really need to introduce air, preferably preheated air into the chamber to get secondary combustion.
