What are the signs of clutch failure? How can one test to see if a clutch is good?

the clutches last almost forever now a days. What does wear out is the springs, Time to replace the shoes & or clutch is when the little holes where the springs hook into get worn.If your carb. is set correct & the chain still turns Its time to service or replace the clutch. But then it could be just the sprocket.
