Cullman AL woodpecker damage

That's not woodpecker damage, that's insect damage that was revealed by the woodpecker. Woodpeckers frequently get blamed, when they actually just expose the destruction that's been hiding within. (Not to be picky or anything.)

Years ago a small plane would regularly fly the transmission lines that crossed a place I farmed & ran cattle on, patrolling for just this thing.

So true! I track the woodpeckers through my woods to mark out the trees they’re hammering away on. I’ve got a pair of Pileated woodpeckers which are very neat to see. They certainly leave their mark on where they’ve been working.
