I bought this saw new and immediately pulled the original topend. I started the mods with a 385XP cylinder. I cutt the squish band, then sent it off to US Chrome and had it bored 2mm to a 395XP bore and had it re-plated. They did a beautiful job. I then fitted a thin-ring 2100 piston to the saw. This required a little clearancing on the crankcase for the full-skirt piston to clear at BDC. I then ported the cylinder. Stock 390 exhaust timing is at about 96°. This one is at 100°. Compression is right at 200 PSI. It makes great torque and RPMs. RPMs aren't quite what my ported 390 are, but it's exhaust is higher. You can tell the difference in the torque. I also bored out the venturi in the carb. The ignition timing is advanced 6° It is as well mannered as a stock saw.
What I'm really looking for is another 395XP. It would have to be in like new condition. I've got a wild hair to build another one. This 2188 is the only Jonsered I have left, and runs too close to my 390, so is more or less a duplicate.
This is PHO. The B&C are not included.
Asking $1,000 OBO. It would cost you $1,500+ to have one built like it.
