So I was called out to look at a tree once I looked at the tree I decided on a price and the guy was shocked. I tried to explain the dangers of the tree and the danger of climbing it. I also told him to remove that tree it would best be done with a bucket. As there is not a good tie in from another tree. And I wouldn’t myself climb it nor would I let another worker climb. What do you think the tree is about 45 to 50 foot the cavity runs a good 20 to twenty five that you can see I’m sure it’s more.

Hard to tell a lot from your pictures. That looks like an old wound with a ton of strong reaction wood curling around it. What does the base of the tree look like? Do you have to rig off it or can you bomb pieces off? Is there access for a crane or a bucket? Can't tell by the pictures but what is the species?
Bottom line if your not comfortable climbing it don't let anybody here convince you otherwise.
Also, if the guy was "shocked" at the price let him take his life into his hands and climb it. Never ceases to amaze me how people will balk at a price for a service they would never dare to do themselves. Get your number if you are going to do it. Walk away if he tries to low ball you.

It’s a sweet gum tree and the wound is real old it’s next door to my parents and it’s was that way 15 years ago the base the wound goes into the ground and has sealed around itself the hollow goes 2 and a half feet into the ground beneath the tree. There is maybe 4 inch thick of wood all the way around the tree it’s self. It could be bombed out. But not lay over the only good thing it has for it it’s in a low land that keeps most of the wind off of it. Can’t get a bucket truck in here or crane but maybe a man lift. Make that about 3 inches of good wood

Looks like an Oak with all the leaves below it. That base looks good from what I can see. With that much reaction wood I would not be too worried bout bombing pieces off it. That being said I am not telling you to climb the tree.

Jed has made many good points. From the picture I wouldn't be too worried about climbing it but I would understand and support anybody's decision not.

More to the point, I agree, your price is your price, they may balk at any price. Let that be their concern.

I think one should never second guess walking away from a job for safety reasons or pricing in whatever might be needed to make a job safe. Even if you cannot say specifically what it is about a job that makes you uneasy, you may be perceiving a risk that others might overlook, and you know your skill level better than anyone else.

strong like bull! Maybe throw a strap or two around it but we'd prob climb it. bomb it/ light impact rigging as needed, looks like a lot of room around the tree bomb smaller pieces as not to shock the tree too much.

Just going by the picture i think I'd climb it, but lm not there. Id throw a line up in it and give it a pull test see how it reacts. If it seems solid make your decision. Maybe put a strap around if for good measure.
Its easy climbing a tree from my pbone. Lol. Might be a whole different story standing there looking up.
