Its a black tag. The number is 9210240. It also says husqvarna 288 and made in sweden. Thats all thats on the tag.

@ Zombiechopper: I'd rep ya but it says no. I was worried that you'd take my joke in other-than-intended spirit, but you did no such thing. Power to the people!

Its all good Bro. Gotta have a sense of humour!

I am actually sorry about the hijack. I have a question on serial numbers for Sawtroll: is there a way to tell by serial number if a 357XP has a) Walbro 199 , and b) if it has a plastic carb boot clamp? I know they made changes going through production but has that ever been documented?

Mine reads:
965 55 04-00
08 3400007

It had a walbro 199A, but the new intake boot with a metal crimped on clamp (not the newer metal screw type hose clamp). Just curious

Clearly a 1989 number then - 1989 week 21, as you suggested! :)

If it was a 1999 one, it would have had an extra digit (like 92100240) + plus the plate also would have said "1999" on it.

That saw is from 2008 week 34, as you probably have figured out.

What you asked about is possible, but likely only if you have access to one of Huskys dealer networks. I don't have that access at the moment, but some others on here will. Some times the actual "cutoff" numbers for changes are listed in the IPLs as well, but not always. The IPLs are on Huskys US website.

To reply, might get a lil confusing.......
A: re the Walbro HDA199 Carb
Introduced from serial no 04 4800401 on models 965 55 01 XX, 965 55 02 XX, 965 55 03 XX and 965 55 06 XX assuming its an XP model and not an XPG etc...

B: re the partion wall and metal clamp

2002-03 Service bulletin for modifying the existing partion wall, Ie cutting off the plastic clip and using 503 56 00-03 hose clamp to seal it (this was a modification only, the hose clamp with the screw is only used on this mod)

2006-03 New partion wall assembly introduced from serial number 06 1100201 (this has the metal clip type clamp as still used today)

Hope this helps.

I should have known what this thread would turn into! :dizzy:

so if my tag reads as follows:

96/ 08 21-00
s/n 05 4801026

Husqvarna AB
Huskvarna, Sweden
e5*97/68SH3G3??? (tag is too scuffed here to read the last bit)
2002/88*0032*00

this means it is from week 48 of 2005?

cheers,
Joe

Yes, it does!

Basically, the most important changes to the serial number/tag color system happened in 1987, 1997 and 2000, always at the start of the year. There also was a change in the number of digits some time between 1989 and 1997, and other changes regarding what info is on the tag in addition to the serial number. Then there are the Tomos made saws, and other exceptions....

thanks once again SawTroll! Without your wealth of knowledge, this site would be a very sorry place!

cheers,
Joe

Sorry for the thread resurrection but I was hoping someone (looking at you Saw Troll!) could give me a production date for my Husky 254xp. The numbers are on a black tag and read

965 50 11-00
99 3600158

Much obliged ;)

1999 week 36.

I am still learning some details, and what I posted when this thread was active wasn't quite correct. I have later learned from exemples that the change I thought was made for 2000 then actually happed some time in 1999, and the addition of a didgit to the last part (behind week numbers) happened at the same time, not at an unknown time earlier.

The system adopted "some time" in 1999 is unchanged later, and still the one used.

More 1999 exemples will help narrow down when "some time" was.
