planted a dog wood 5' tall early this spring watered everyother day tree is
starting to die leaves are wilting some starting to turn brown. Help??

Watering every other day sounds like to much. How much are you watering each time.

I would suggest 5-10 per week should be enough. Plus if you are getting sufficient rain you can cut back.

Dug a small test hole next to the outside diameter of your planting hole and a little deeper. If it fill with water you have a drainage problem and you tree's roots are sitting in water.

Is this a nursery grown tree or from the wild?

I agree with Jay. Dogwoods definitely do not like to have "wet feet". They are very susceptible to root rot in a wet environment.
