If your trailer is a single axle I would say you could make the sides higher and fit a cord on it but you would be over loading it by a bunch. My 5x8 loose no sides not heaped I call 1/2 cord

i've found that a cord loose is about 180-200 cu-ft loose. (16", split) I have a 6x10 dump trailer with higher side boards.
check out the green weight of the wood species you are hauling. 4000 pounds per cord may not be far off for some.

There's a guy that brings loads into the firewood auction I go to in an ez dumper. Stacked across the back and the rest thrown in. I bought a load from him one time and thrown in my F150 it made a strong half cord. I think he has 2x6 or 2x8 sides on it. Stack a 1/2 cord and then throw it in to see what you get.
