I don’t know about the 400 in particular but I sold my ms180c when I bought the 590. I like the 590, It was my first echo product. I now have the 590, 303T and a 770 echo backpack blower. I like them all but I think I’m going back to stihl for the next saw because echo doesn’t make a 70cc saw.

No but they do have an 67 and an 80 cc saw.

I picked up a 310 from a buddy's pawn shop for $85 OTD.
Great little saw.
Since then (March 2020) I've gotten a 271T and two 590s.
I can't saw enough good things about Echo products.

CS-400 is a well established solid homeowner saw. It is part of the previous generation of Echo rear-handle chainsaws and shares the same platform as the CS-370 and the now obsolete CS-450 (the second platform in rear-handle saws after the base CS-310/ 352 platform). It's been around awhile and works pretty well, no "common" issues that come to mind for it. Like a lot of Echo's it is a good saw for the price. The one thing I would say is that because it is from the last gen, I would expect it to be getting phased out in the next year or two like the 450 did (now the 4510).

I’ve had a Cs-400 for 5+ years w/ 18” bar. It is the go to. Feels light and agile with 18” bar. Used ittoday on a blown down pine and took down another. Used the ms261 on the third pine, and it felt sluggish compared to the cs 400. I have a 620p that is my last resort saw and a mac 610
