Two elm trees growing a couple feet from each other.

The first is definitely an American. Is the second a rock elm? Or just a super shaggy American?

Pull off a piece of the bark and look at the end of a broken piece. If I recall correctly, if you can see alternating red and white layers, it is American elm. If they are all red, it is red elm. I don’t know if that is also known as slippery elm. Siberian elm may be about your only other likely suspect there.

Oh, compare the leaves too, when you get some.
