Hello,

We have a row of 30-40’ ficus trees that are starting to push on a shared brick wall...

I’ve had arborists tell me the ultimate solution is to remove them but then I have no privacy.

I have a landscaper that works with a mason that’s proposing cutting away sections of the brick to relieve the pressure for at least a temporary solution (we want to buy at least 5 years)

Id love to hear your thoughts

thanks

Cable them away from the wall, trim off the one branch that's on the wall.

Based on the pictures I see this might be possible dont know what the rest of trees look like

One question is what does the neighbors think of the trees ?

Same question on modifying the wall?

The neighbors love the trees as much as we do, it’s the only barrier between our two yards...they just happen to be rooted on our side.

The neighbor’s side of the wall is obscured by trees and bushes so I don’t think they’d object to a few bricks being shifted.
Here are some more pictures...

The last picture in your first post they appear to all lean towards the wall that might be a case for cabling away from the wall

One pic looks like a cap brick taken out will put the first branch above the wall should be ok for many years
On all but one, the trees are only making contact with the brick cap, not the body of the wall.

I could have a mason remove the brick cap but is there anything I can do once there’s a gap to prevent it growing in again.

if you burn wood cut them down to log size for your firewoood for fireplace and or wood stove and plant some thing else or put up a very high fence
