certified, agree, nextel is the handiest most agravating thing out there!
that said, I'm switching phones right now to cingular's push to talk. already have cingular and mycontract is up first of jan, so new phone time!
sad part is cingular sux. i can drive stop lite to stop lite here and get/lose signal. Fewest dropped calls my arse! either that or everyone else not on cingular can't complete a conversation!

Verizon seems to be good around here, better than cingular, I have, BUT no sim cards yet, you get a new phone you have to take it in to have it setup, mine, pop out the sim, pop it in the new phone any you are talking again. The ONLY thing I like better over Verizon. Cingular SUCKS!!! T-Mobile has no coverage unless you are near a major highway around here, Alltel seems to be making headway, but I don't know the coverage area around here yet, and I don't know anyone that has one yet.

cisco, that has been done. but you can only block so much before hitting into the ranges of other member IPs

This is the way it works. All ISP's get blocks of addresses, usually in the form of /21's which is roughly 2000 addresses on a single block that they can break down. If the dude is on say the 12.119.128.x with a subnet of say 255.255.248.0 you can block either the entire 2000 addresses from say 12.119.128.x - 12.119.135.x or use the wild card of 255.255.255.0 which will only block the 12.119.128.1 - .254. This way you'll only block 255 addresses instead of 2000+. If someone calls complaining they lost access, they'll get in touch with you and you can eliminate that particular block and break it down more.

And Pyro,
Yes, it will work on ranges of addresses, unfortunately there's alot of trial and error before you can really narrow it down unless you have the type of software that can base those decisions on layer 2 mac addresses of the nic cards themselves as most ISP's use dynamic addresses which will change sometimes.

we run layer 2 searches here. you'd be supprised how many members will come up if you just put in a number. ive seen as many as 50 members all logged in on a specific (and exactly matching) ip# over the course of time. (not at the same time, of course) blocking that number will impact them all at some point

ip's are at layer 3 guy, most people run a NAT(network address translation), i.e. several people share a private space inside say a DSL router etc... You'll see that my wife and I both use the same public address, even though we are 2 seperate people and I have about 10 pc's in the house that all use the net, you'll only see one publicly. If they are direct connected using a NAT or PAT, you'll be able to pick them out very easily, i.e. signatures and number of concurrent active streams, but that costs some cash and some serious software/time to really narrow it down. I'm sure you guys log addresses of all posts, that's the best way to find out, then contact their ISP by email and file a formal complaint, we keep records of any/all of the IP's 24/7. They can shut them down for spam crap like that. If you can't find it, use dnsstuff.com and do a reverse lookup. That'll give you country, ISP, and contact info for owner of the address. Rock on brotha...

That's why you need logging. When you contact ISP, you can give them time/place posted and tell them what they are doing. We all have policies prohibiting these things. They'll deal with only that one person and knock'em down. They can't be simultaneous. What I can say about that many people matching up to that one address is they all must have dial up. DSL and Cable don't change that often. Very odd brotha, very odd indeed. Spammers and other dudes generally use proxy servers for their foolishness. Check any of the IP addresses here: http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/banned.ch

You can check to see if they are on this list. If they are, chances are they are up to no good... Just an FYI buddy. opcorn:
